Article improvement

edit

I came across this article by way of Wikipedia:WikiProject Iowa/Cleanup listing it was tagged in November 2006. When i clicked on it I found it was about the 1st Governor of Iowa with 4 lines of information with no references and {{succession box}} and the {{Governors of Iowa}} at the bottom of the page. I have since developed it to this point and FYI this is the first time I have ever done anything like this. I went on flicker and had no luck finding a picture, although I found many pictures out on the web and believe there is a good chance that the copyrights have expired as Ansel died in 1881 almost 130 years ago. If someone could secure a photo following the copyright rules I would appreciate it. My only attempt (2hrs worth) at bringing in an picture from flicker was unsuccessful (another project), I will need some tutorial help with that process at some other time. I also know that the lead paragraph needs to be expanded from the one line it has. If someone wants to do that I would be thankful, otherwise if you make suggestions I will. I am asking for a new set of eyes to edit this article for readability and to critic it. Now I would like to ask some questions, but I would like to make the changes per your answers myself (a little pride).

  • 1 Do I have the authority to remove this article off of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Iowa/Cleanup listing ?
  • 2 Do I have the authority to delete the {{unreferenced}} in the article ?
  • 3 On this page In the {{Project Iowa}} it has a top importance and a stub-class. Does the importance stay the same? Is the class now at least a start-class or possibly a C=class ? If higher tell me. Do I have the authority to make the change to the template or is there a process ?
  • 4 Do I have the authority to make a change to the {{WikiProject United States governors}} or is there a process for contacting them as I am not part of their project ?
  • 5 Do I have the authority to make changes to the {{WPBiography}} or again is there a process for contacting them as I am not part of their project ?
  • 6 on the article page I used a {{Infobox Officeholder}} . Was that the correct template to use ? I started with a {{Infobox Governor}}

As always I thank you for your time and input RifeIdeas Talk 19:12, 5 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • I would say anyone has the authority to do almost anything on here. I already removed the unreferenced tag while reading your first paragraph. If you fix a problem, you are more then welcome to remove any related template that relates to said fixed problem. Yes, you can also change the class/priority at will, just not to GA,A (until it is a GA) or FA. I also already updated it to C class while reading the top paragraph. Importance will always remain top, unless there is some sort of discussion to change it, or if you really feel it isn't top importance, but being he is the first governor, I would agree to top importance. For 4 and 5, you can change the class free will (as long as it is a reasonable change) to any project or on any article. They should all be the same so if it is C class for Iowa, it is C class for Biography and Governors. The importance could very well be different (which neither of the other 2 have), because for Iowa he would be more important than for a project with all governors. I'll look for a photo, and upload it, for copyright expired, or as I did with File:Matthew Shepard.jpg, the subject is deceased, so it is impossible to take a free image. • Oh, and I think either infobox works fine. CTJF83 chat 19:49, 5 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Also, it appears Commons has File:Ansel Briggs, First Governor of the State - History of Iowa.jpg so I'll throw that in the infobox. CTJF83 chat 19:50, 5 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
{{Infobox Governor}} and {{Infobox Officeholder}} are just two names for the same thing (Infobox Governor redirects to Infobox Officeholder), so it doesn't really matter which one you use. --Philosopher Let us reason together. 09:30, 8 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
