Use of 'alleged'

edit

Since the court found her guilty, is she not legally a witch? You're only alleged until you're charged. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 14.201.109.113 (talk) 08:37, 8 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

The court found her guilty of sorcery, not being a witch. She also alleged that her confession of being a witch was extracted under torture and was initially afraid to withdraw her confession because she was threatened with having her tongue ripped out and being burned alive. By today's standards, the evidence that she was a witch or that she could commit sorcery would be considered unsafe, and if it happened today would result in a mistrial, at least. So I think the use of the word "alleged" in the lead is appropriate. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 23:05, 25 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Article subject ?

edit

Although starting out as a treatise on the trial of Anne Palles as a witch, the article then covers other witch trials in Denmark - should these be split out into their own articles, or the article renamed perhaps, as it isn't really a biography of the person named CultureDrone (talk) 17:31, 5 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

The other cases mentioned are merely notes. I have just made a big expanison of the case of Anne Palles from the cited Danish source, so that is the articles main subject. Of course, you could create articles of the other cases as well, but the small notes of them could merge in the article of Palles anywhy, as notes of the social context. --85.226.235.231 (talk) 14:15, 6 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
