Talk:Anne

Latest comment: 3 years ago by Sahaib3005 in topic Move discussion in progress

I've removed the sentence (or two?) "The direct Spanish translation for Ann is Pilar.Turkish, which means mother."

The direct Spanish translation of Ann is Ana. Pilar is a Spanish given name, but it is related to Mary rather than St. Ann. In any event, it is the direct translation of "pillar". Anne is the Turkish word for mother, but unless this can be shown to be related to the Hebrew-Greco-Latin-European name Anne, it doesn't belong in this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.135.189.179 (talk) 16:08, 18 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Usage

edit

Anne is also frequently used in Germany (cp. http://www.beliebte-vornamen.de/4473-anne.htm , 19th Jan 2012) and I'd imagen elsewhere at least in Europe. -- 141.89.100.69 (talk) 11:07, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

"Alternative explanation"

edit

The paragraph discussing an "alternative explanation" seems likely to be original research. There are no cited references, and some of its claims are not supportable (e.g. the connection of "Anita" to "Annahita" and supposed lack of derivation of "Anita" from "Hannah" — it seems plausible if not obvious that "Anita" is a diminutive of "Ana" which is derived from "Hannah"). As an infrequent editor, I'm reluctant to remove it on my own, but perhaps someone with more initiative could examine this. Rsfinn (talk) 17:17, 28 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

inclusion threshold

edit

There are over two thousand articles about Ann(e)s. (I restrain myself from pasting the list.) How do we decide which are notable enough to list here? —Tamfang (talk) 17:46, 16 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
