Animegao/Kigurumi Term Usage

Does anyone have any sources to where this is actually called "animegao" in Japanese? Most things I have found refer to animegao as faces shaped like those of animated characters, not as a type of cosplay. --Z026445 12:06, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

I have looked into this, and Animegao is not the correct term for this. Animegao refers to the Anime-faced dolls, and not the cosplay. Generally they refer to this as Bishoujo Kigurumi (for the girl-characters) or Anime Character. There doesn't seem to be a quote on quote, standard name for this style of Kigurumi, but rather a variety of choices depending on the kind of anime character that is being portrayed. --KurisuTsurifu 16:07, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

I tend to agree with this. Most English speakers tend to refer to it as kigurumi, but even many Japanese sites dedicated to this fandom use the term kigurumi for this subset of the culture. This article was once included under the main kigurumi article, but at one point some one decided to split it off to its own separate page. Alexia Smith (talk) 10:38, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Methinks it would be a good idea to add stuff about how the masks and stuff are made, if possible. I mean, I don't want detailed instructions, but the article as-is doesn't even say what they're made of. --Yar Kramer 05:14, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

This is supposed to be an article on animegao as a topic, not on how animegao masks are made, let's keep to the topic. I guess we could branch off a separate article showing how masks are made? How about Animegao Masks? -- Kigurumi Loopy 07:52, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Article images

For many years, the only image in this article was of a cosplayer at Kyoto International Manga Summit. A few months ago, I was able to get an American kigurumi cosplayer, Cici Winn, to license one of her images under a free license, to help illustrate the practice's spread to countries outside of eastern Asia.

The addition of an image of Kantai Collection characters at FF26 is appreciated, as it presents a variety of characters, with a variety of features (open mouths and closed mouths, subtle variances in sculpting style, et cetera.

But whereas most articles on Wikipedia suffer from an American or at least English-speaking world bias that must be balanced out, removing an American example from this article does the reverse, as all that's left is examples from Japan and Taiwan. We have no shortage of space on Wikipedia, and so I don't see any justification in limiting the number of images in the article. -- Zanimum (talk) 18:36, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

I'm confused why KigurumiOnline was removed from the external links section. While KCS was once the primary forum, KigurumiOnline has equal if not more active forums within this hobbyist community, and that's even before you account for the constant activity in its Facebook Group. The websites perhaps could be merged into one bullet point forwarded with "Forums", but both are valid and should be kept. -- Zanimum (talk) 18:44, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

Beyond Build Up Studio Sigma, Iluca, and Ayame Stores, most mask makers are invariably new and part time. Were we dealing with other costume-related hobby categories, like fursuit makers, there's an overwhelming amount of possible links, beyond what Wikipedia can effectively manage. But there is a very small list of active makers within this subject matter. Particularly considering that many countries only have one or two makers, and considering many of the most established companies (in Japan) don't sell internationally, I find it entirely valid to have a more complete link list, as has been created. -- Zanimum (talk) 18:50, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

Inclusion of links is justified. There is only a handful of makers, and it helps demonstrate the variety of techniques and styles to our readers.

Interwikis

Different versions of Wikipedia appear to disagree on the breadth of the base term kigurumi. Our DAB page defines it as a costumed character. Spanish Wikipedia restricts it to animal characters, and the Japanese Wikipedia page, 着ぐるみ, includes an image of a sports team mascot, which supports that interpretation. However, only Spanish and English Wikipedias have a separate article on Animegao kigurumi; the Spanish Wikipedia one, to which this one is linked at Wikidata, is es:Animegao. We were previously including in the article an old-style interwiki link to the Japanese 着ぐるみ, but that's simply Kigurumi, as stated above, and is linked at Wikidata to all the Kigurumi articles. So on reflection I won't mess with the Wikidata links. It might be a good idea instead to split off the Japanese section of the Costumed character article and make a full article on Kigurumi, moving the DAB page to Kigurumi (disambiguation). But artificially interwiki-linking this one and that Japanese page is misleading. Yngvadottir (talk) 15:38, 11 June 2017 (UTC)

Identification of cosplayers

@Nanitheheck:, you have said "Removed specifically named person in fairness to other people who's names are not listed. If you are going to list the name of one person, name the others featured as well."

That is not possible, as we only have information on the identification of Cici Jean Winn. Is it not preferable to have partial identification of those pictured, rather than no identification at all? -- Zanimum (talk) 05:05, 27 July 2018 (UTC)

Photography

I don't wanna sound mean, but I think that Precure image is a little dated and not the best example of how animegao kigs look nowadays. If anyone here speaks Japanese, do you think it might be possible to get permission from kig photographer and cosplayer @eidori_k to share some images of theirs, as like a replacement for that?
