Talk:Animateur

I have never understood animateur to be specifically a "musical" or a "professional" role.

Merriam-Webster: "someone who leads and encourages participation in a particular activity and especially in a cultural or artistic activity"

Macmillan: "someone whose job is to organize cultural projects or social events and get people interested in them"

Oxford: "a person whose job is to organize or encourage artistic or social projects and activities"

Wiktionnaire: "Personne qui anime un groupe"

I believe it is incorrect to say that the role "developed" from a French concept, or that it is "most common in the English-speaking world". It is a French concept, and one which doesn't easily translate into English, as is shown by the French Wiktionary reference above which suggests "host/hostess" as the English translation.
