Merger proposal (old)

Another editor has restored a two-month-old version of the earlier attempt to split out Angry Birds Rio, which was previously discussed with a minimal consensus reached to not split the article and leave Rio as a redirect here. This is creating a duplicate article, which is unnecessary, redundant and, even more important, confusing. I'm requesting that the content from Angry Birds Rio be merged into the appropriate subheading here at Angry Birds; in practice, this will merely entail deleting the out-of-date content at Rio and restoring the redirect. --McDoobAU93 19:22, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

  • Support Separate AB Rio article is redundant and out-of-date. Restore redirect and move on. --McDoobAU93 19:22, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Support No need to have a single-paragraph article on a variant of a game that already has its own article. --uKER (talk) 20:53, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Comment According to the section of WP:MERGE on proposing a merger, both articles need to be tagged at the very top of the page. This has not been done at Angry Birds. The discussion title should be Merger Proposal, I have taken care of that already. The reason for that is so that people who click on the link in the tag Discuss will be take directly to the correct discussion on the talk page, rather than have to search for it. The tag at the top of Angry Birds Rio should link to this discussion, and not to the other talk page. It seems that the destination was deliberately changed to another talk page, resulting in multiple discussions on the same topic.

I know it seems like I'm nitpicking, but there are reasons why these guidelines are in place. They are to ensure total fairness and encourage the maximum amount of discussion and participation among other editors.--JOJ Hutton 01:37, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

No, you're not nitpicking. You're trying to answer a question that nobody has asked. You're trying to craft a solution for a problem that didn't exist. Nothing was ever deleted, defacto or otherwise; a true deletion would have left no redirect. Unique content was relocated here the first time. The second time, an editor copied the Rio content over word-for-word simply because they wanted to use a screenshot they captured (look at the discussion; it's their words, not mine). That time, the redirect was restored and comment was started here. The result of that discussion, based on the amount of input, was that there was no need for a separate article. That's the very core of how things happen here; someone was bold, the work was deemed too bold and reverted, then the activity was discussed. Everyone who was involved in it had their voices heard, if they chose to raise them. That was TWO MONTHS AGO. Everything has been fine with both this article and the redirect. As I stated before, it wasn't broke, so please stop trying to fix it. --McDoobAU93 12:45, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Almost a week later, and there are still two discussions on two different pages. There is still no banner at the top of this project page. Angry Birds Rio has been greatly expanded and updated by several users in the last week. So the cut and paste single paragraph argument no longer applies.--JOJ Hutton 19:56, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I know. You disrupted Wikipedia in order to make your point that something wasn't handled the precise way you wanted it to be. As there is apparently no way to please you—there is a banner at the top of the section, which is where it can also go ... it does read " ... into this article OR SECTION" (I figured since you knew the exact way things go you'd have noticed that)—I'm willing to end this and start work on improving the separate Rio article. Congratulations. You've proven that disruption is one of the best ways to get things done around here. --McDoobAU93 20:50, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for your kinds words and thoughts. Thanks again for your help in achieving a solution to this situation. Hopefully both articles will continue to grow and readership on both will only increase with two pages instead of just one.--JOJ Hutton 21:07, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Angry Birds vs. Wikipedia

In a news report today:

According to the Nieman Journalism Lab, a journalism foundation at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts, the total number of hours consumed by Angry Birds players worldwide is roughly 200 million minutes a day, which translates into 1.2 billion hours a year. To compare, all person-hours spent creating and updating Wikipedia totals about 100 million hours over the entire life span of Wikipedia, according to the foundation.

Not surprising, just interesting. :-) 76.192.41.243 (talk) 14:05, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Criticism

No "Criticism" section, as many WP articles have? This game is derivative and unoriginal, very unworthy of winning the awards it has, and I'm sure many people have said so in print. Worth a mention. 86.144.27.197 (talk) 20:08, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

Your opinion has been noted. That said, if you can find criticism posted by an independent, third-party and reliable source, I'd have no problem with it being added to the "Reception" section instead of a separate "Criticism" section. Please keep in mind that such sources do NOT include: forum posts, self-published blogs, opinions of "gamers" or of companies who have developed games similar to Angry Birds but published before AB ("sour grapes"), etc. In reading and citing the significant reviews used in this article, the only negative comments I found were about individual components of the game (for example, control schemes on the non-touchpad versions) and not the game itself. Incidentally, criticism sections aren't exactly required. --McDoobAU93 23:52, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
Wow its always nice when anon ip accounts come to wikipedia talk pages and give their opinions as if its the main stream theory. Fact is that AB has been one of the top sellers,if not the best seller in just about every market and operating system. If the ip has sources we can look at, then it would be more helpful to see his/her point of view. Otherwise I don't see much else that can be done.--JOJ Hutton 00:10, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Merger proposal

List of Angry Birds games is unnecessary. Most of this information is already covered in this article or in other parent articles. There are also not enough games to create an entire list in another article.--JOJ Hutton 02:42, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

From what I can see, it only took information from the main Angry Birds and Angry Birds Rio articles. This is more delete than merge. --McDoobAU93 03:02, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
Agreed. There is no original content. The List article should be removed completely. AMslimfordy (talk) 05:28, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
  • Support delete. --uKER (talk) 12:14, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

If anything, I'd split the article into Angry Birds (video game), Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds (franchise). 78.9.144.132 (talk) 23:31, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

Support Information is redundant, merge is necessary. Mchcopl (talk) 04:09, 11 April 2012 (UTC)!

  • Oppose: The other article appears to be adequately sourced, and merging it would jeopardize this article's GA status pbp 18:55, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

Support I'm not very experienced about this topic, but it looks like the two articles are quite redundant. The other article might have a little original content, but not a lot. A merge (or possibly a delete of the other article) would be good. StoryMakerEchidna (talk) 23:04, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

  • Oppose This article will be too long, and this article is about the original angry birds, and that article is about all the other games, which are two different topics TheChampionMan1234 (talk) 03:42, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
  • Support merge. Speciate (talk) 16:20, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
  • Comment Instead of merging, what if we remove the other games sections from this article since as TheChampionMan1234 said, this article is supposed to be only about the original game, not about the special editions?--Krystaleen 16:20, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

Ice? or Glass?

I saw angry birds twitter and they said it's glass.[1] but the article says it is ice. which is right? --도약 (talk) '하늘 높이 도약하라 (Jump into the sky)' 13:14, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Twitter is generally not considered a reliable source for inclusion on Wikipedia. Also, the cited source provided is the game itself, which is considered reliable. As indicated by the source, an achievement within the game is called "Icepicker" and is described as "5000 ice blocks smashed". There is no achievement mentioning glass. Again, as stated by the source, this is the North American iOS version, and it's entirely likely that it could be called something else in another version. We would just need a source for it, just as we have for ice in the article. --McDoobAU93 15:40, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for your response. --도약 (talk) '하늘 높이 도약하라 (Jump into the sky)' 16:59, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Angry Bird Space

Rovio has revealed the platforms on which Angry Birds Space will launch on 22 March. They will be iOS , Android , PC and Mac . You can see it at : http://space.angrybirds.com/teaser2/ scroll down below the picture of the yellow bird ( It looks purple because of the light effects )it is written : Angry Bird Space iOS-Android-PC-Mac . Please look into this matter and update the article. Thank You — Preceding unsigned comment added by Roshan x10 (talkcontribs) 10:25, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

Compatibility confusion

Itunes site states compatibility for Angry Birds Space as "Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad.Requires iOS 4.0 or later." http://itunes.apple.com/app/angry-birds-space/id499511971?mt=8
But on the blurb for the app in Apps-store (can't link there) it states (as of 22/03/2012 19:00GMT): "PLEASE NOTE: iPod Touch 3rd generation devices (8GB/16GB/32GB) will not run this game. The device consists of 2nd generation hardware which is not currently supported by Angry Birds Space.
NOTE: this may be an error/mispelling/misunderstanding - since 'according to wikipedia': "Following the introduction of the 3rd generation iPod Touch, Apple also continued offering the 2nd generation 8 GB version, upgraded to the same iPhone OS version as the new 3rd generation devices. The iPod Touch (3rd generation) is model A1318. Apple as well sold many refurbished iPod Touch 2nd generation models with the 3rd generation software effectively making them a 3rd generation unit." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipod_touch#Models --84.249.81.46 (talk) 19:12, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
In my experience, the game works fine with a 3rd-gen iPod Touch running iOS 5.1. Barring official word on compatibility, or independent analysis from a reliable source, I wouldn't mention it. Also, for what it's worth, Wikipedia is not a source for Wikipedia. --McDoobAU93 19:21, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

Angry Birds in other media

Angry Birds have been recently featured on the cover of a National Geographic Magazine . You can view it at : http://shop.nationalgeographic.com/ngs/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=6200992&code=MR20854 --Roshan x10 (talk) 16:01, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Angry Birds Yoga

In Other media, the paragraph beginning Angry Birds has inspired works of religious analogy... seems to exist soley to promote an essay. I'm not sure, but this looks very tangential to the original article. Autarch (talk) 20:56, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Reception

In the reception section, it mentions a review given by The Cristian Science Monitor. This seems a strange publication to cite and I'm wondering if it was inserted just to give a link to the Christian Science Monitor article. I have no issues with this if that quote is accurate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.76.131.62 (talk) 20:29, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

I looked at the link and the quote is there. However, I don't think the Monitor is an authority on the subject. I think the article would be better served with a quote from a dedicated tech/gaming organization.

Angry birds seasons

Check out the new article for Angry Birds Seasons, and extend it if needed. Kailash29792 (talk) 17:16, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Semi-Protection

This article really should be semi-protected. Very few IPs make constructive edits to this page; I have it on my watchlist and quite frequently have to revert their vandalism. Interchangeable 19:13, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

And soon after I had posted that message, the semi-protection was removed. Interchangeable 00:10, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Hot Wheels

Mattel's Hot Wheels are making Red Bird and Minion Pig into Hot Wheels castings. This should be added to the article. B-Machine (talk) 18:25, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

System Requirements

Could someone(s) please help add system requirements for more platforms (the right side-bar item that says "System Requirements"? I only added Mac OS X and iOS because I am familiar with those platforms. Thanks, 76.10.241.86 (talk) 03:27, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

Also, the same goes for all the Angry Birds variations (Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio, and Angry Birds Space).
Thanks again, 76.10.241.86 (talk) 03:38, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

Is this article about the series or about the game?

At a first glance it seems to be about the game but further down the other games are mentioned also. I think we should make this article about the game and start a new article about the series at Angry Birds (series). What do you think?--Krystaleen 06:36, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

Support- the problem stated above may confuse many readers.Greg Heffley 15:37, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Support I think it is about time for that. Definitely worth a good look. --McDoobAU93 16:17, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Support But I think that the article should be about the "Franchise" and not just about the series of games. Clothing line, Toys, theme park, media, and others.--JOJ Hutton 16:22, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Okay, now how are we going to do this? Jojhutton has a point, are we still going to start an article at Angry Birds (series) or at Angry Birds (franchise)?--Krystaleen 14:01, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

franchise is more appropriate.Greg Heffley 15:54, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
I say make a franchise article that contains everything about Angry Birds (merchandise, media, gaming, renevue, etc.), and the game series can be on a section in that main franchise article. This article should only be about the first game itself. Sort of like Toy Story as this article and Toy Story (franchise) as the new article. Giggett (talk) 01:02, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
So, is this a deal?Greg Heffley 17:09, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
I think so. But I haven't got the time to actually do the split. Anybody is welcome to do that, I can help here and there.--Krystaleen 16:28, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
I would agree with Angry Birds (franchise) as well. Also, List of Angry Birds games should basically be deleted. As far as I can tell, everything in that article is copied from other articles. Alphius (talk) 14:54, 8 October 2012 (UTC)
I've started the article at Angry Birds (franchise), so far only dirty copy and paste from this article with incomplete infobox. Any help writing the article is welcome.--Krystaleen 09:20, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
