Academic peer-reviewed criticism of this article edit

From Rosenzweig's article:"he entry on Andrew Jackson Downing says that Olmsted and Calvert Vaux designed Central Park in 1853 even though the cross-referenced article on Vaux has them (accurately) winning the design competition in 1858".--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 18:23, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Phrasing edit

I don't know if 'bath of fiery death' was necessary...just a thought Meb429 02:47, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Likewise this entry =
"By the mid-1840s Downing's reputation was impeccable and he was, in a way, a celebrity of his day. This afforded him a friendship with Luther Tucker— publisher and printer of Albany, New York – who hired Downing to edit a new journal."
Since this wording is not a quote, removing the flowery language yields something like =
By the mid-1840s Downing's reputation and celerity were established.[citation needed] This brought a friendship with Luther Tucker — publisher and printer of Albany, New York – who hired Downing to edit a new journal.
I took a risk by actualizing this edit. (I have fallen into that Be Bold trap before, torn into by authors who were married to their prose. Please do not bite my head off.) This change was made in good faith.
