Public Statements

Fischer recently made a public statement that was reported by several major networks. In it, she said that she "did not feel sorry for the bullet" in her victims head.

This is a verifiable comment and should be added to the article.

Correction. Apparently someone has added the comment to the article.

What happened

Amy Fisher, (born Amy Elizabeth Fisher, August 21, 1974), in September 1992, pled guilty to nonfatally shooting Mary Jo Buttafuoco on the front porch of her Massapequa, New York home. Mary Jo's husband Joey Buttafuoco was convicted in 1993 of the statutory rape of Fisher, who was a minor at the time of the shooting.

Amy Fisher was convicted of 'first degree assault' in the shooting. Her sentence began on December 8, 1992, and she was released on parole on May 10, 1999. She served 6-1/2 years in prison. Her parole was completed on February 26, 2003.

It is pretty unclear to someone who hasn't heard of Amy or the Burrafuocos what happened. The mention of statuatory rape after the shooting makes it seem immaterial, but wasn't that the motivation for the shooting?

Something more like the following, perhaps?

Amy Fisher, (born Amy Elizabeth Fisher, August 21, 1974), became sexually involved with Joey Buttafuoco at the age of (her age). Joey was married and suggested to Amy that he murder his wife. Amy's attempt was unsuccessful and in September 1992, she pled guilty to nonfatally shooting Mary Jo Buttafuoco on the front porch of her Massapequa, New York home. Mary Jo's husband Joey Buttafuoco was convicted in 1993 of the statutory rape of Fisher.

Birthplace sources

What sources were used to determine Fisher's place of birth? Currently, the article states that she was born in Caroline Springs, Melbourne, Australia, but NNDB says she was born in Long Island, New York. Would someone please WP:CITE their references for this? Merging

I do not think Amy Fisher should be merged. For those people who are not familiar with Amy's story, it could be very difficult to find the article, especially if it is dubbed "Long Island Lolita." I was currently assigned a research paper on her, and if the page was called "Long Island Lolita," I probably would not have found it without some other research elsewhere.70.249.147.14 17:39, 22 November 2006 (UTC) Rebekah

User:rogerd has suggested that material I added to this article back in September 2005 was copied word-for-word from the [http:// amyelizabethfisher.com/bio.html amyelizabethfisher.com] website. That's not the case. I have never come across that website before today and, as far as I know, that website didn't exist back in September 2005. I certainly recognize the text that's on the Bio page of that website now because it's almost exactly word-for-word what I wrote for the Wikipedia page. They have copied the text of their Bio section from Wikipedia, not the other way around. My sources of information when I edited this article were another Amy Fisher website - www.amyfisher.com - which was alreday listed as an external link in this article before I edited it; and a few news articles I found on the web, most notably www.crimelibrary.com/notorious_murders/young/amy_fisher, which I added as an extra external link at this article at the time I edited it. Per WHOIS entry for amyelizabethfisher.com, the entry of the text in question predates the existence of amyelizabethfisher.com. This is not a copyright violation. In fact, amyelizabethfisher.com is wrongfully asserting copyright to information that was obviously obtained from GDFL wikipedia. --rogerd 23:01, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

prostitute?

Since I'm not a native English speaker, I need your help understanding a source exaktly.

It is said: "On June 27, 2007, Fisher remarked on The Howard Stern Show that she lied about being a prostitute."

Searching for varification I found this site: http://www.howardstern.com/rundown.hs?month=June&day=27&year=2007&x=22&y=11

The key sentence seems: "Under further pressure from Howard, Amy recanted her earlier claims that Joey had given her herpes and pimped her out."

But that is not the same statement as above, is it?

Thank you very much! --77.11.33.63 (talk) 21:01, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Photo

I wonder if both images (glamor shot added by Fisher and mug shot) both could be included, as long as someone besides Fisher adds the glamor shot? If that's the case, then the only remaining issue would be which one goes in the infobox. Ward3001 (talk) 02:18, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

My issue is not with the photo, but strictly with the COI caused by Fisher substituting it for the mugshot, thereby providing a more positive image of herself. I would have issue with ANY edits made by Fisher to this article. Wuhwuzdat (talk) 02:22, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
I agree, although an updated (and free) image might be an appropriate addition to the article if done by someone besides Fisher. Ward3001 (talk) 02:23, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
The mugshot seems likely to be deleted as non-free. In any event, it might be helpful to peruse comments in Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard/Archive51#Mug_shots. Gimmetrow 03:47, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Jewish or not Jewish

Does Fisher self-identify as Jewish? If so is there a source for this? I have recategorized her as American Jew to American people of Jewish descent. Wlmg (talk) 00:03, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

Date of Birth 1974 or 1976

There has been repeated reinsertion of 1976 as Fisher's date of birth. A 1974 birth would make her 17-years-old at the date of the crime, No original research allowed on wikipedia, but this is common sense math of dates.Wlmg (talk) 00:11, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

Ask her yourself

Why don't all you wikipedia people just ask her yourself. She does free chat in between webcam shows on a site called streamate.com. Just go ask her when her birthday is or if she's a practicing jew, it's a graphic site though just to let you know.--24.118.85.163 (talk) 19:11, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

Third-party source needed per WP:NOR. We could use her bio if it in was a permanent, linkable part of her own site, but not if we're asking her in a live forum. --Tenebrae (talk) 19:15, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
I'm guessing her birthday date is in late August at any rate if only because her (public, if I recall how Facebook works) fanpage post on August 22nd 2010 mentions a birthday dinner, suggesting at least that her birthday that year was that week (and she links to that fanpage from a page that she links to from her official website. Not proof that this is her talking, not someone else, admittedly, though a sort of authorization for statements made by the pageowner maybe... ... I don't know. I agree better evidence is needed.)
