Ameena And Amina edit

Ameena, which means trustworthy, is different than Amina, which has an extended proununciation of the A (like Aa-mi-na). Amina, the name of the prophet Mohammed's mother, means peaceful and such, but does not mean trustworthy. I think that should be corrected —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.141.73.95 (talk) 04:47, 21 February 2007 (UTC).Reply

I'll fix it, in that case. Asarelah 01:18, 22 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

^ And where have you got this information from?

Clarity edit

The current text makes it sound like she became involved with the military at age six. Can anyone corroborate or disprove this? -Etoile (talk) 05:27, 8 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Amina edit

in my western civ. classes we've discussed the figure Amina as being the mother of the prophet Muhammed i think this should be added to the article —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.27.107.213 (talk) 08:11, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Information on the Planisphere of Domingos Teixeira edit

The 'Historical references' topic makes mention on there being a 'Castelo Damina' on the Planisphere of Domingos Teixeira, and refers to this as an indication of Amina's rule. However, this could also be interpreted as Portuguese for 'Castle of the Mine', or, far more likely, as referring to the 'Castelo de São Jorge da Mina' ('Elmina Castle' in English), erected by the Portuguese in 1482. It does not seem historically acceptable to leave this information there as indicative of Amina being known to Europeans, particularly when the citation only refers to the planisphere, and not to any other claim of this.

Support deletion of Planisphere of Domingos Teixeira edit

I want to support this position, and propose that the sentence and its footnote be deleted.
