I added mention of Plate tectonics to the intro edit

Since the article focused solely on social considerations and didn't mention the scientific basis of continental designation at all, it seemed appropriate to me to add Plate tectonics to the intro. Anyone who hovers over the link will get a helpful popup that shows a colorized map of the plates, which shows an amazingly clear division between North and South America.

I don't know how much weight is given to this in Latino education, but from an American perspective, I can definitely say that, when I attended high school (late 1990s), my geography teacher definitely mentioned the fact that the northern and southern parts of the Americas rest on separate plates, and this is one of the most important reasons for why they're considered to be two separate continents. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PhilHudson82 (talkcontribs) 11:43, 29 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
