“Big Bad Voodoo Daddy” vs. “Americana Deluxe”, what’s the title?

edit

howdy~

I'm primarily a MusicBrainz editor, and I noticed a claim on this page that doesn't seem correct to me, namely about the album's title. the current wording is, “However, the liner notes and the band's website clearly show that the title is Americana Deluxe”. I believe this claim might be due to the filename of the album cover image on their gallery page. however, I found a sampler from this album which clearly lists this album as “Big Bad Voodoo Daddy”, see the back and insert scans here. there's also several other places where this is the case, I went into more detail on the MusicBrainz edit.

the “Americana Deluxe” claim was also added without any sources, see the relevant revision

That this article has been allowed to remain with the wrong title this long is preposterous. Every source contemporaneous to the album's release refers to the album as Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. "Americana Deluxe" is merely an artistic header for the mock restaurant menu depicted in the liner notes--like "Appetizers"...or "Desserts" in a real restaurant. In Newspapers.com, I have found dozens of articles/ads around the album's release, not one using the words Americana Deluxe. alainsane (talk) 05:47, 11 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

in terms of contemporary sources, most certainly the album is called Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. that said, I have found some recent official sources that call the album "Americana Deluxe", namely two 2020 videos on their YouTube channel in which Scotty Morris talks about some videos from the album:
I've asked them on Twitter to confirm the name of the album and if it's been changed, we'll see if they reply:

that said, I do agree this should most likely use the original title, since it's more likely to be found that way (who would search for the title of the menu in the booklet? that's some ARG nonsense, lol) UltimateRiff (talk) 05:33, 9 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Description now says "The liner notes and the band's website have the title Americana Deluxe." In Wikipedia language - citation required?
I cannot find a discography on the band's website. I cannot see where it it written down that the title is anything other than what is shown in the image on the cover and spine. 86.21.27.218 (talk) 08:45, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
the liner notes can be seen in this scan on MusicBrainz via Cover Art Archive (middle right panel), but it looks like a design choice to me, and there's no indication that it's the title of the release (especially since it doesn't appear on the outside or any marketing I've seen so far): https://coverartarchive.org/release/4e1700de-dccc-487d-a92c-c882dcfed7f1/12607475512-1200.jpg
they have album covers on their gallery page here: https://www.bbvd.com/gallery, which contains the image with Americana Deluxe in the filename (tho the image titles don't seem to have much care put into them, some of them are just random-seeming numbers): https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5509fa26e4b042d7b1ec98d2/1433887020452-94QKDP4PMBEUG2F2Q7OJ/big_bad_voodoo_daddy_-_americana_deluxe-2.jpg
again, I personally would probably favor the sources closer to the release date, such as the Matchbook Sampler, which clearly labels this album's title as Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. scans of this release are also available on Cover Art Archive: https://ia903401.us.archive.org/19/items/mbid-e15215e0-7b98-42f1-8c9e-24346e984467/mbid-e15215e0-7b98-42f1-8c9e-24346e984467-32115285690.jpg UltimateRiff (talk) 17:32, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
update, I have found one store listing which lists the album as "Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (aka Americana Deluxe)" and also includes "S/T" meaning Self-Titled, which makes me think the title should be changed here: https://realgonemusic.com/products/big-bad-voodoo-daddy-s-t-americana-deluxe-2-lp
as well, there is a Google result (to an unarchived page) on Rough Trade which lists the title similarly: "Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (Americana Deluxe)—25th Anniversary" but I don't know if that's a good enough source for Wikipedia. UltimateRiff (talk) 17:40, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
