Plan for this article
editThis article is currenly marked as a "stub", but even so it makes assertions that should be backed by citing sources. What is the plan for finding and adding those source citations? (sdsds - talk) 05:13, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- Well, many overview articles have a smaller amount of citations, because users can always refer to more specific individual topic articles if they wish to find further cites and information. This qualifies as an "overview" article, because it describes a historical concept or role, it does not really relate to any specific event or issue, and it describes a concept which actually spans many eras, many geographical regions, and spans a wide variety of actual individual experiences. So I agree that citations are always welcome and positive, however, an article like this need not rest wholly on citations. --Steve, Sm8900 (talk) 21:38, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
- That's certainly an interesting view! Where can I read more about Wikipedia policy on "overview" articles? (sdsds - talk) 02:15, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
- I don't know what policy essays exist, if any. i simply stated my own observations based on established practice here. Overviews generally seem to have less citations, even though they are packed more desnely with information and facts per article, and could conceivably have more citations if the cite rules were applied uniformly. This is just my own intuition of course, so please feel free to add any further sources, or also to point out any Wikipedia papers on this if you find them. thanks.
- By the way, another assumption here of course is that any statement of a viewpoint like this one is of course subject to public discussion, so of course this whole issue is up for discussion if anyone wishes to. Anyway, the main thing is that we can keep credible facts here even if they're not cited, but obviously citations are always a positive thing to have. --Steve, Sm8900 (talk) 03:29, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
- Well, actually, just to fully develop the point, here's an excellent example of a good overview article which covers a major topic, and yet has only two footnotes in the entire article. the article is Politics of the United States. By the way, the article does have a number of reference works listed in the bibliography. however, individual facts within that article seem to almost never have accompanying citations or footnotes. Hope that is helpful. thanks for your comments. --Steve, Sm8900 (talk) 03:49, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
part of history of the USA and Canada too. But not that all many people don't know that firsthand accounts how starting growing up.
editMy family part of west experience in 1812-1899. Something more information contained in pioneer life. Frontier areas has it part of the timeline for all times and people who had the american dream too. Bethanyramey8 (talk) 06:51, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
Pioneer point of view
editThe European etc. settlers and their descendants may have described these people as pioneers but there may also be a perspective of native American populations that could also be factored in. GregKaye 07:39, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
