Unclear sentence in lead paragraph

I don't understand what this sentence in the lead paragraph means: "ANW succeeds the qualifier G4 Ninja Fests into Sasuke, as the American Ninja Challenge." It just seems like gobbledygook. Can someone who is familiar with the show fix the sentence? If I have no idea what it means, I think there are other readers who can't decipher it either. --JamesAM (talk) 03:36, 25 June 2013 (UTC)

Yes, but what's it all about?

It's a sports entertainment competition that began on December 12, 2009. Beginning with the fourth season in 2012 blah, blah, blah. The sixth season premiered on Monday, May 26, 2014 blah, blah, blah. And then we're into season details, such as how it was held in Los Angeles, where hundreds of competitors came to challenge themselves against the course. Nowhere does it say anything about what goes on! What challenge? What course? Sure, I can always look at the linked article about Sasuke but is this how Wikipedia's supposed to work? I'm a non-American who has only just heard of this programme today, 20th Aug 2014. Am I supposed to come to this article already knowing what the show is about? Agreed. There should be more useful information in the lede, perhaps borrowed from the Sasuke page. "A reality show based on attempts to complete an obstacle course", something like that?

Trivia, etc.

I have again removed an enormous amount of unverified and unencyclopedic material. In a nutshell, this is an encyclopedia (duh), not a fan site for exhaustive detail. Given how poorly this article is verified, all this detail is wholly excessive--in addition, the colors are cute and all that, but a. they violate WP:COLOR and b. we're not in kindergarten anymore.

Now, this is one of the coolest TV shows on American television; surely we can make a better article than this. Drmies (talk) 17:22, 23 December 2014 (UTC)

An idea.

I've noticed that this page hasn't exactly been about the actual show and more about what goes on during each season. To prevent this from cluttering up the page and make it more organized, then should we give each season it's own page and let this page be for more about the actual show and what goes on? • I got a better idea: get rid of all that unverified, unencyclopedic trivia in the first place. These aren't the Olympics--some contestant getting some score is not automatically relevant and of value. It's become a fan page, not an encyclopedic article. Note that the article has been tagged for six years for lack of sources, and that given its enormous size it's incredibly poorly sourced. Really, it's an embarrassment. In Season 7, under U.S. Nielsen ratings, it lists the Orlando qualifying as having first aired on June 15, 2015...but that's today, it's not on, and the NBC ANW site says (alas, only in a dynamic slider) that the Orlanding qualifying will air on June 22nd.

Therefore, for Season 7, in the "U.S. Nielsen ratings" section, under the "First air date" column, for the "Orlando Qualifying" row, please change "June 15, 2015" to "June 22, 2015".

Obstacles/Enough's Enough

Over the past weeks and time and time again, this page has been nothing more than messy. There are some stuff that should stay on the American Ninja Warrior page on here, but some Users all of sudden have erased or deleted some important information without an explanation. I'm going out on a Limb and calling these Users: Superhamster, Drmies, Bilorv and Williams21, All these guys have just been deleting stuff and control way too much of this page as well, also they have been bullies to other users and have done nothing, but block users over and over again. While other users such as JasonNolan64, NinjaRya, Teamdopefreshnationsforlife, ArticGriffin, as well as a few others have tried to keep this page normal and add the right info and what needs to stay on the page. However, the 4 users (Superhamster, Drmies, Bilorv and Williams21), just keep on deleting information and all 4 don't even watch the show at all. Next I'm gonna talk about the obstacles, The Obstacles have to stay on this page because people would like to found out which obstacles were on on each course and the obstacles are the main part of the show and how do the obstacles need follow guildelines. Thank you for finally taking the time to post on the talk page, which has been asked multiple times by editors removing the list of obstacles (including me). Several points:

• "Users all of sudden have erased or deleted some important information without an explanation" - not true at all. As has been explained time and again, explanations have been provided in edit summaries, the section above, and this deletion discussion for the removal of the obstacles list.
• Valid Wikipedia content guidelines and policies have been used to justify the removal: WP:INDISCRIMINATE, WP:NOTWEBHOST, and the spirit of WP:GAMECRUFT come to mind. The table also went totally against WP:COLOR as being hard to read, particularly for people with issues seeing color.
• The reason behind the removal is that it is far too detailed information for a general encyclopedia. We're here to provide an encyclopedic view on a topic; your average reader doesn't need to know every little intricate detail about which obstacles appears in what show. "it's important to know which obstacles were on each course and season" - I'm not convinced it is. Maybe a description of all the obstacles would be useful, but listing every single obstacle that appears in each season or episode is insignificant and unverifiable. You're right about Sasukepedia. If you're a fan of the show and want to know about every little detail, then Sasukepedia is your friend. Wikipedia is not a fan site, was never meant to be a fansite, and will never be a fansite. I've given policy-based rationales all over Ninja Warrior UK and so has everyone else who has removed content — that's clearly a waste of time here, so I'll try something different. I love Ninja Warrior. "all 4 don't even watch the show at all" is completely untrue: I watch the show. As a young child, it was one of my favourite shows on TV. Admittedly, I haven't seen the U.S. version but I've seen plenty of Sasuke, Women's Ninja Warrior and the recent UK version. But Wikipedia is not about what people are interested in or enjoy. It is about making a serious encyclopedia that only includes content that is important — by tougher standards than a fan of the show thinking it should be included. I'm not trying to be a bully; I'm being as nice as I can. I've gone on and on about Sasukepedia. But these discussions are not helping anything. This content is not going to be included on this site. Stop Removing Season 7 Off The Page!

This content needs to stay on the page because for one, none of the other seasons have it's own page. So why does this one? And I know I didn't add the content in the first place but please keep the Season 7 content on the main page. It has content people need to know if they want to do research on ANW. Maybe the other seasons are notable enough to have their own pages, but that's irrelevant (7 wrongs don't make a right). Per WP:SPLIT, when articles get too big (75K bytes is quite big but the real problem is length - look how many long tables the article has), we should make new pages and just summarise their content at the main article. Personally, I don't feel much of what is in the current article is notable enough to be included anyway but I don't really want to get into edit wars. But if there is a separate season article, we should have a hatnote / {{main}} link to it and only duplicate its content briefly; anyone wanting to do research on ANW [if they needed this page at all] could just click on of those links. As I said when originally reverting you, this split is important because some people won't be able to comfortably read, navigate and/or load this page — especially mobile readers and those with slow internet. I know you didn't create the season article, but this is a wiki, so that's irrelevant; you do not own this page or any other and you can't be so controlling and keep trying to enforce your opinion if others disagree.

I'm not going to revert you again just yet, but I'm going to ask you kindly if you could please undo your changes while we discuss this. I'm also going to ping @Arcticgriffin to see if they want to say anything about why they reverted you. I took the initiative to finally create a separate article after years of neglect. JasonNolan you need to understand that when articles about television shows have multiple seasons, they are not all kept on one page, they're split into their own articles. For example, The Voice is relatively the same size (it has 8 seasons), and all of the seasons have their own page. On the main page, the season has a very small paragraph outlining the very rough details of what occured during that season; it doesn't include the whole article. Even small shows that have a mere two seasons have them separated. Do you not realize that this information has been removed because it has its own page? Have you even seen season 7's page? Kane Kosugi and other Sasuke finishes

I get it that he is American, but he hasn't achieved anything on ANW, let alone even competed on the show. Do we really need multiple references to him? There have in fact been Americans who have competed, and even won other Non-Japanese versions of Sasuke, but I don't see their names footnoted anywhere.

While we are at it, why are we even including finishes on Sasuke in the first place? There is already a section for American Athletes on the Sasuke Page. It's like saying an American qualified for the finals of Britan's Got Talent. ANW is NOT Sasuke, and I would argue that the final Midoriyama course, even with similar obstacles, is clearly not the same, as evidenced by the complete lack of success the Sasuke champions have had on the ANW course in the specials.

Agreed. The "title" of "American Ninja Warrior" (which the Japanese series referred to as "Total Victory") is, within the mythology of the show, reserved for those who've completed stage 4, and so both Caldiero and Britten earned the title, even though Caldiero was the winner of the season. Britten being the first person to complete state 4 on American soil is arguably just as important as Caldiero's ultimate victory. NewkirkPlaza (talk) 22:18, 15 September 2015 (UTC)

Problems with section Obstacle and course creation

First there's no sources. Not doubting the accuracy but there's no way to verify. More problematic is the advert tone. The word creative is used twice and it seems to be industry jargon. Only one young man finished and he should receive the pass without competing against someone who did not finish the course. It wasn’t fair and I’m really upset about the outcome. Page clearing

@71.235.128.67: The page certainly needs major clearance as was previously noted by maintenance tags. I've done as much cleanup and updating to what the show is about now as I could. The information you're trying to push through the page now is mostly reverting my edits to a troublesome page it has been all along, most of which relevant to particular seasons and not the show as a whole (per Template:Overly detailed). Moreover, the Series overview table surely must be left alone (or Winners section somehow briefly paraphrased) as any further edit makes it exceed the 100% limit (which forces users to scroll horizontally to see everything, forbidden by Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Accessibility).
