This article has been contested as spam. If you read the article you can see that it is the beginning of an article that seeks to map out the controversy surrounding this study, a study which is published annually and typically covered by the media, particularly broadcast, without the benefit of any background research on the validity of the study.

Please do not delete or freeze this page. This not in anyway an attempt at product promotion. Too quick a trigger finger, I understand the zeal to remove product promotion, but this is obviously not product promotion.

Regardless, this page is hardly encyclopedic. What is the point of it? It covers a very narrow moment in the publication's history about the criticism. I'm editing it down until someone who knows what they're doing fixes it. Alcarillo (talk) 23:09, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

I believe this article is not spam, but actually a valid article. That's although it may eventually be able to be merged with another article. "America's Safest and Most Dangerous Cities" has indeed been subject to much noted controversy and discussion, especially amongst persons interested in crime statistics and other aspects of civic life. So, I believe this article can be developed beyond what currently exists. However, I'm not sure if it should be merged (wholesale) yet, per se, with that article which features its publisher, CQ Press or SAGE Publications. There are, as I believe, similarly branded rankings of city crime and statistics. Some of them may be equally controversial, contested, if not have different formulations, etc. That, too can be part of discussion, comparing sources. These days, there's also new online applications that perform similar tasks for community analysis. Most of these rankings are manipulating statistics that are provided by city police reports, which are in turn provided to the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and compiled. That's partly the controversy. The FBI has issued a disclaimer to such reports, as have many police departments and cities. Anyway, this is just my brief advice, but I do want to note it by happenstance, because I would not like to see this article disappear unexpectedly. Ca.papavero (talk) 03:02, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

A further look at the editing makes me believe that this article has been abused; that's to the point of wiping-out entire sections. One of the last major edits occurred as of 02:11, 2 February 2014‎ by an unknown user with the identification of 76.203.128.204. Taking a look at the before and after edits is revealing. I had not looked as closely at this article for a some time; but, when I opened up the previous versions, it brought back memories. Perhaps, the earlier version of this article could be improved, but I don't believe it validated wiping the entire sections and reducing this article to mere trivia and questionable status. In my opinion, this comes off as vandalism. I would like to see many of the earlier sections restored, as I believe someone is trying to minimize the this article, as that's eventually to do away with it altogether. That's not something to which I'd agree or approve. So, I'll keep this on my watchlist. Ca.papavero (talk) 03:23, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
