Just looked over this article and I have some suggestions for improvement.

  • I have not seen "alternative idol" as a concept in any Japanese article, so it may definitely be a term overseas people have come up with. There may be trouble in legitimatizing this as a category given that Japan doesn't see it as a sub-category.
  • Some sources are not reliable, such as Honey's Anime.
  • The "notable artists" sections needs to be sourced to show that they have been recognized as part of the sub-category.

These are my comments. Cheers. lullabying (talk) 00:56, 21 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your comments lullabying. So alternative idols is most likely a term coined by overseas fans, but the sub-category itself is on the rise both in Japan and overseas, and because of its growth in recent years I felt it warranted an article. I will work to improve sources throughout the article, and with the notable artists section I think showing the artists notability overall (via refs of course! which I will look for asap) should be enough? Any feedback is greatly appreciated though. Abdotorg (talk) 15:40, 21 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
I've looked through Japanese search engines and there was almost nothing, so it doesn't seem like the sub-category exists in Japan. It seems like a term overseas groups came up with to describe something that doesn't fit what they think an idol should be. Most likely this category should also be under "underground idols" because most of the ones listed seem to be indie. lullabying (talk) 18:51, 21 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
One more thing: I just looked through Japan Forward and I'm kind of wary about them being used as a source given that they published an article stating that comfort women is a scam perpetuated by North Korea. lullabying (talk) 05:57, 22 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
