Songcover
edit@SpaceFan25: Could you explain where it is said that cover versions are required to chart? Not even WP:NSONGS has this policy. (CC) Tbhotch™ 03:37, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
WP:SONGCOVER says only notable covers are allowed, and I think it violates that policy. SpaceFan25 (talk) 04:09, 10 November 2021
- @SpaceFan25: Songcover explicitly explains the situations a cover is notable:
- "the rendition is discussed by a reliable source, showing that it is noteworthy in its own right".
- "Merely appearing in an album track listing, a discography, etc., is not sufficient to show that a cover version is noteworthy".
- "The rendition itself meets the notability requirement at WP:NSONGS." This leads to:
- "Songs and singles [and in this case cover versions] are probably notable if they have been the subject of multiple, non-trivial published works whose sources are independent of the artist and label."
- The charting clause is a now-deprecated misunderstanding that has been clarified by NSONGS: "Has been ranked on national or significant music or sales charts. (Note again that this indicates only that a song may be notable, not that it is notable.)" Songs, and in this case cover versions, are not subjected to charting, but to WP:NOTEWORTHY.
