Spelling

edit

Alister Mackenzie's name is correctly spelled with a lower case "k". It is normal to assume after Mac or Mc in a surname the next letter will be a capital letter. But in Mackenzie's case it is not so. His name and its spelling is famous in golf architecture so please correct to Mackenzie. Reference No. 1 would be "The Golf Course" by Geoffrey Cornish and Ronald Whitten, The Rutledge Press, New York, NY. Countless other books and literature and newspaper articles on Mackenzie confirm this name spelling. Also, many other Internet sites spell his name correctly with a lower case "k". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fuzzybugger (talkcontribs) 4 February 2009

According to the Alister MacKenzie Society: "There are still many different spellings for both Alister and MacKenzie !! However the accepted version is seen on these pages, and this is now approved by the R and A." However, they do go on to say: "There is much evidence in the early records at Alwoodley of 'Mackenzie', all in lower case"

They say that he seems to have adopted the upper case 'K' after deciding to live in California.[1]Kuitan (talk) 09:46, 13 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Is anyone following this page ??

edit

I am surprised to see so little info about Alister MacKenzie. Is anyone following this page these days ?? I would like to improve this article by expanding it but want to collaborate.Rogala (talk) 00:55, 31 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I plan to wait a few days for a response, and then be WP:BOLD with some editing...hope I do not offend anyone.Rogala (talk) 18:52, 31 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I don't really have time to do very much, but, if anybody wants to, the Alister MacKenzie society have "an interesting diary document about Alister MacKenzie known as the TIMELINE. It shows what he did and where he was from his birth on August 30 / 1870 in Normanton in Yorkshire, through his time at School and University, to his early death on January 6 / 1934 in California."

It can be downloaded as a PDF here Kuitan (talk) 09:28, 14 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

About to Start Editing...

edit

I am about to start editing this page, and I plan to use both MacKenzie's own writings in "The Spirit of St. Andrews" and the material in the book "The Life and Work of Dr. Alister MacKenzie" by Doak, Scott & Haddock as my chief sources. I am looking for someone to join me in the sirit of collaboration.Rogala (talk) 21:30, 4 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Editing Now...

edit

I am now editing and have worked on the lede, as well as the sections devoted to MacKenzie's birth & early life and the opening paragraphs concerning his golf course design activities. Lots more work required though, and I could use some help from editors more experienced with biography articles at this stage of development.Rogala (talk) 00:42, 5 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
