Alice originally named Sally edit
Untitled edit
At a point in the novel where we only have one female character, Alice Jordan, in the discussion, but we have the following:
- "We've found Vandervecken." Sally whis-
- pered. [...] [1]: p.155
and later on:
- [...]dropping bombs into a conversation without seeming to
- realize it. Sally lost her breath. "I am?"[1]: p.166
As Alice is the only human female in that part of the Solar System, we may assume that Larry Niven decided to change the name of the character from Sally, but missed these two occurrences of the original character name. Both occur embedded in text near quotations. These are difficult places, particularly in pre-word processor days, to find and change the name of a character.
Or maybe Sally is a nickname or middle name :-)
Is this corrected in later editions?
