Mannesmann tube division

Missing from the article is the acquisition by Algoma of the adjacent seamless tube manufacturer, sometime in the 1970s. This was owned by Mannesmann AG and known as "Mannesmann Tube" prior to the acquisition, whereupon it became the "Algoma Steel Tube Division". Slowmover (talk) 21:51, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Was this plant not nationalized by the provincial NDP government in or around 1991? Isn't that the reason the plant continued to operate? Am I just imagining things? Because this seems like one of the most important events in the plant's history, and indeed Northern Ontario economic history.
