Input on mathematics needed edit

However, the article definitely needs more information on Pringsheim's achievements in mathematics. Can someone who is familiar with his publications help out here? --Remotelysensed (talk) 18:04, 19 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

The comment about Pringheim's theorem needing a correction by Boas is mistaken --- Boas, in Bull AMS 41 (1935), 233ff, corrected ANOTHER theorem of Pringsheim, not the one about nonnegative coefficients that is so important to analytic combinatorics. --- Don Knuth, 16 April 2012 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 171.66.180.178 (talk) 16:23, 16 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Teaching style, contempt for the concept of Riemann surfaces? edit

Funny anecdote from a 1964 interview with one of his students (cited in Rechenberg's 2010 biography of Heisenberg, another student at the same time, p. 95):

> Pringsheim verbrachte gelegentlich eine halbe Stunde, um den Begriff der Riemannschen Fläche lächerlich zu machen. Wir bekamen nie ein Integral zu Gesicht, wir arbeiteten nur mit Mittelwerten und ähnlichen Begriffen, unendliche Reihen, was Sommerfeld vollständig ablehnte.

Not enough for a new section on its own, but there must be more stories about a guy with such a distinctive teaching style. Leaving this breadcrumb in the meantime.
