The Clutch of the Corsican

Hostages to Honor by Alfred H. Bill of St. Paul was submitted to Atlantic Monthly Press in 1924 for the $2000 Charles Boardman Hawes prize. The Press was so pleased with the submissions that two runners-up including this one, as well as the winner, would be published in March 1925. Evidently this contest runner-up was The Clutch of the Corsican (Atlantic Monthly Press, 1925), frontispiece by Frank M. Rines. The three "Hawes Memorian Prize Contest" books, as she called them, were jointly reviewed by Ruth Sapin for NYT. The two other titles were unchanged from the January announcement.
