Business career

edit

It would also help if the article actually contained information on how he acquired his wealth. I suspect like most Russian billionaires is that he assumed ownership of some part of the infrastructure of the country when the Soviet Union fell and sold it off to the highest bidder. But it would interesting to read the politically correct version of his story from humble Soviet citizen to Russian mafia. --SaturdayNightSpecial (talk) 11:06, 27 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Is this man clean? No controversies, no lawsuits? Aldo L (talk) 03:04, 15 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
well, he stole his money from Russian people, but in UK it's not a crime, it's encouraged actually — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.165.173.131 (talk) 21:48, 1 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Early life and education

It would help if the article actually contained any such information emacsuser (talk) 16:30, 3 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • I have reverted the old blanking Alex Bakharev (talk) 05:21, 4 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Lebedev's father was Jewish, which fact, given the invidious recent history of the Russian oligarchs, should find some mention in any biography of the man. When is Wiki going to set out clear, obligatory standards for biographical basics: birth place, religion of parents, early education etc.? ----

The man is a Jew. That should be included in his encyclopedia article.184.58.254.24 (talk) 01:43, 6 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes, the man is a Jew, but then so too are the people who control Wikipedia. It's acceptable to point out when someone is Jewish only when it is seen as "good for the Jews". Billionaire media moguls who got to where they are by lying, cheating and stealing doesn't fit the desired narrative. Therefore, expect any and all efforts to properly ascribe religion/ethnicity to this individual to be fiercely opposed. 118.172.23.24 (talk) 16:25, 26 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

"The pople who control wikipedia" What the? Keep your infantile anti-semitic bigotry away from here thanks. Contaldo80 (talk) 13:10, 3 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I think the link to Lebedev's blog is useful, providing a unique information about the subject of the article (according to WP:RS personal sites and blogs are considered a reliable source about the subject of the article. I also suspect that Lebedev is probably the richest active LJ-user, that makes the link even more notable. I am restoring the link Alex Bakharev 04:02, 20 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Respectfully Alex, someone's personal blog is not NPOV. i think there is some manner of which a blog could be used, more of an added intrinsic value, but not as a reliable third party source to confirm or deny facts.--SaturdayNightSpecial (talk) 03:37, 18 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Jewish?

edit

Couldn't find any reliable sources about his Jewish origin. The sentence that his family was of "ashkenazi heritage" was unsourced. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.46.251.196 (talk) 20:19, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
