Farris Albayati

edit

Any evidence? IMDB says his full name is Alexander Maurice Thomas Zane. Tobyink 12:36, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've removed it unless someone can provide proof. -Рэдхот 17:57, 21 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I always thought his real name was Farris Lawrence?

name definitely is i went to high school with him, check school records, definitely not real alex zane p.s. i am not a stalker i just like the truth!!

Yes Farris Albayati is his real name - I went travelling with him in 1997 with Raleigh International. He mentions this travelling in his 'heat world' interview (see link at bottom of his wikipedia page).

I checked the Birth Index and found: ALBAYATY, Faris Alexander L; Birth Registered: Leeds Yorkshire, 1979. So THAT'S his real name. I'll add it to the article. Crisso (talk) 01:25, 5 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
We still need a proper secondary source for this. Zane himself is no help. From this Evening Standard interview: "Wikipedia has Zane’s real name as Faris Alexander L Albayaty but when I email asking him to clarify this and some other family details his responses are prompt, polite and discreetly uninformative."--Pawnkingthree (talk) 19:53, 17 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Career

edit

It is true what he says about starting his stand-up comedy on this trip : I saw his first go at it and said to him he *must* do this for a living! I seem to remember the sketch was about sheep following him about.

I am glad to see that he followed it up. The last I saw of him though was around 1998 when he worked in the BP garage on Roundhay road. Since then, I saw him do a 'Boots' Christmas commercial, and then on to what he does now. Good on him! Sammysmalls (talk) 20:24, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Brits rejection

edit

I think the section on Brits rejection is too long, considering its topicality, and not in an encyclopaedic style - see WP:BLP. However I agree that it could be worth having a referenced celebrity / personal life section if he is going to pop up in the newspapers more regularly. Any thoughts? Otherwise I will leave as is until Monday when it is no longer "news" and make changes. Lou.weird 09:37, 16 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Have rewritten the section as per the above and called it 'Trivia' for want of a better name... Lou.weird 13:38, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

"British Greek"

edit

I've got him down as of Greek parentage. Actor Billy Zane is also from Greek parentagePolitis 10:57, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

What evidence is there of him being a British Greek? This is the only site I can find it on? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.147.27.202 (talk) 18:35, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is incorrect, Alex is not a British Greek, as is stated by fellow Xfm radio DJ Dave Berry on air this morning. He's from Leeds, and is completely British. 14:32 21st April, 2008

http://www.hamhigh.co.uk/what-s-on/alex_zane_decides_to_stand_up_and_be_counted_1_865908 "“Wikipedia is wrong, I am not Greek and I don’t know where that has come from. I keep removing it from Wikipedia as it’s not true. It is brilliant that someone keeps noticing that it has been removed and thinking, ‘Oh dear, someone’s removed the Greek fact, better put that up again, because it’s definitely true.’”"

Thanks for the link. Have removed the Greek stuff yet again.--Pawnkingthree (talk) 12:15, 15 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

XFM Controversy: Alex not fired?

edit

Why is Alex cited as having been fired by Xfm? While he was suspended, he is now back on the breakfast show and I can find no evidence that he has been fired. BunnyDust (talk) 07:37, 23 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

As I was listening to Alex Zane this morning (!), I'm going to give it a couple of days and then remove the claim that Alex has been fired unless someone can show otherwise? BunnyDust (talk) 08:31, 23 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've now edited the article. BunnyDust (talk) 14:44, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Alex, as his real name suggests, is of Middleeastern origin from his father's side. Faris (Persian) and Albayati (Arab) are non-European names. I understand his mother id British and he has disowned his origins due to being rebuked by his parents for giving up studying medicine at university. Check Albayati on Google and you'll get numerous hits with non-European first names. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.126.222.53 (talk) 23:08, 24 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

General requests for some changes made on his WikiPedia page.

edit

Hi all,

I am a representative of Alex, and he would like to kindly request some changes and updates on his WikiPedia page.

What we are looking for to change specifically is the section regarding XFM.

We would ideally like this section to be removed if possible as it simply isn’t accurate. If this isn’t possible, could we perhaps make it more factual, particularly taking out the word rape, so it reads something like the below:

• Zane and his team (Marc Haynes and Sunta Templeton) were suspended from the show in August 2008 after he broadcast a self-created song, deemed to be offensive by the station.[3] All three returned a week later. [4]Alex Zane.

Additionally, Alex's profile hasn't been updated since 2011, with his most recent work, so we would ideally like to update

Could we add a section for ‘Charity’, if so add the following:

• Alex continues to work with MediCinema, the charity dedicated to bringing films to hospital patients across the UK. Zane has hosted several of their annual fundraising events. On his support for the charity, Zane said 'Having heard first-hand accounts from patients of the difference Medicinema has made to their time in hospital - bringing the wonderful experience of watching films on the big screen right to them - I'm proud to continue supporting their brilliant work.' (Citation: DJ Alex Zane hosts Medicinema Halloween Quiz in Cafe De Paris)

If we could also amend the following paragraph:

In early 2010 he appeared with Bill Bailey as a team captain on birdwatching show Bill Bailey's Birdwatching Bonanza for Sky 1 Additionally, he also does the voice-over for Channel 4 TV show 'Ultimate Traveller'. From his work on Sky Movies to being a regular face on the red carpet at Premieres, most recently for Crazy Rich Asians, Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One and Mission: Impossible – Fallout. (Citation: https://www.alamy.com/alex-zane-presenting-the-mission-impossible-fallout-premiere-at-the-bfi-imax-waterloo-london-image212035889.html)

To read:

In early 2010 he appeared with Bill Bailey as a team captain on birdwatching show Bill Bailey's Birdwatching Bonanza for Sky 1 Additionally, he also does the voice-over for Channel 4 TV show 'Ultimate Traveller'.

If we could also get rid of this segment at the end: “A Best of Rube Tube DVD, presented by Alex Zane, was released on 21 November 2011.[citation needed] “

Furthermore, we would like to add Alex's recent presenting work, and add at the end of Television Presenting:

• Alex has presented Channel 4’s variety show based on YouTube videos, Rude Tube, since the Pilot was first broadcast in February 2008 until 2017, continuing to present a total of 10 series, including five Christmas Cracker Specials and with the A Best of Rube Tube DVD, being released on 21 November 2011. • Zane also presented Rude(ish) Tube, a spin-off series featuring clips described as 'very cheeky - if a bit less rude'. The series broadcast on E4 until 2015.

• As a part of Alex’s ongoing relationship with Sky Cinema, Alex has continued to present their annual coverage of the Oscars ceremony, with shows Oscars: Red Carpet Live and the Oscars 2018 Live. (Citation: https://www.skymedia.co.uk/news/sky-cinema-exclusive-home-90th-oscars/). Zane has interviewed Hugh Jackman for Hugh Jackman Movie Musical Greats as part of the release for The Greatest Showman, (Citation: https://www.uswitch.com/tv/news/2017/12/watch_hugh_jackman_talk_musicals_in_this_sky_cinema_clip/). Zane has interviewed Tom Cruise, Matt Damon and more recently, Denzel Washington for an Equalizer 2 Special for Sky 1. Hi Jaystockwell89, thanks for declaring a conflict of interest and using the talk page. About the controversy over his suspension, the Daily Mail is not an acceptable source per WP:DAILYMAIL so I have removed it. In my opinion while the event was notable the paragraph does need to be re-written. I have found a source from the Guardian calling the song "Code of Love" and saying it was "a 'joke' song about rape" while this source from the BBC says it was called "I Won't Take No For An Answer" and is "about a man's unwanted sexual advances towards a woman." It also seems that Zane was intending to parody 60's novelty singer Mike Sarne. That's all a bit too much detail, maybe "a controversial song" is enough. I'll look at some of your other suggestions later. -- Pawnkingthree (talk) 18:53, 11 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
I've added the song title to the article (there is another source from the NME for that.-- Pawnkingthree (talk) 19:37, 11 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Here is more up-to-date information for the Television Presenting section: Since 2008, he has become the leading face of Sky Cinema, hosting various Celebrity Specials for the channel where he has interviewed A-List stars such as Tom Cruise, Jennifer Lawrence and Matt Damon (source: https://www.unitedagents.co.uk/alex-zane). Tom Cruise has been known to personally request Alex to host the London premieres of the more recent Mission Impossible films (source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_1mCCudSaM). He has also presented many large scale music and film events, such as V Festival, Wireless Festival, Golden Globes Red Carpet Live and Oscars Red Carpet Live (source: https://www.unitedagents.co.uk/alex-zane).
