The article says "He uses the title as a courtesy". Actually, it is impolite to extend courtesy titles to oneself. The writer seems to mean that others use it about him. Whether or not Italy was a republic before he was born is meaningless. In a lot (in fact probably most) countries in mainland Europe, especially Germanic ones, when a family is ennobled every member of that family descended from the person given the ennoblement, and sometimes every single person within their family or house, is extended that status, and as a result are entitled to use the style associated with it. In this case the title of "Count" was given to his family in 1913 by King Victor Emmanuel III to all male descendants bearing the surname of the noble family of Mozzi, which was incorporated to the family of Mapelli (see Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi article). The closest we have is the name prefix of "the Honourable", "Lady" and "Lord", which are used to describe the children of British princes and peers within the peerages of the United Kingdom, Great Britain, England, Scotland and Ireland (these are all separate), but are not inheritable. As he has been described multiple times in multiple sources as "Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi", it's completely reasonable for this to be included. Whether this style is recognised in the UK or in Italy is also meaningless. Irish titles are not recognised in Ireland, however Irish peers still use them, as do their children use their courtesy styles. UaMaol (talk) 02:19, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Neither here nor in the article about their son, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, does it say he was divorced (when?) from the child's mother, thus leaving the impression he is still married to her; yet that must have happened, since she has since remarried (twice) according to that article.
