Talk:Albrighton, east Shropshire

Article name

• Now that Albrighton is in the new Shropshire County Unitary Authority thingy, did we ought to rename the article? I understand that it was under Albrighton, Bridgnorth as it was in the Bridgnorth District (RIP), so as it's changed should the article title change? The only issue is of course the fact that there are two Albrightons in Shropshire...... Jcuk (talk) 09:52, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

The Albrighton subject of this article has been referred to in guidebooks (eg Shell Guide to Shropshire) as Albrighton-by-Shifnal, Shifnal being nearest large town within Shropshire. The Shropshire County World War II Remembrance Book (in listing parishioners who died serving in the war) calls it "Albrighton, by Wolverhampton", Wolverhampton being the postal town.Cloptonson (talk) 21:07, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

Cloptonson, the other Albrighton in Shropshire is Albrighton, Pimhill. Should this one perhaps be moved to "Albrighton, Bridgenorth"? Martinevans123 (talk) 18:05, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

Sir Craig Wilson

References to Sir Craig Wilson are inaccurate. No such person was an Earl of Shrewsbury and no 1st Earls of Shrewsbury of any creation were buried here. Of the two 1st Earls, Roger de Montgomery of the Norman creation was buried in Shrewsbury Abbey while the first earl of the present creation (Sir John Talbot) is buried in Whitchurch, north of the county. Dickens?

I realise that TripAdvisor is hardly a reliable source, but this entry says this: "Charles Dickens visited the church whilst visiting his Aunt in close by Albrighton. She was housekeeper at the Harp Inn. Whilst at Tong it is said he wrote The old curiosity shop and little Nell is buried there. This was just a story set up by the Curate of the time to bring money into the church. He faked the burial records and made a false grave which is still there." I agree with Tripadvisor being "hardly a reliable source" as the information given by contributors is anecdotal and the contributors may have been inaccurate on their own part - memory can play tricks - or they may have taken on board apocryphal sources when recounting historical aspects of a place they were not personally part of.Cloptonson (talk) 07:54, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
