Mackey's Encyclopedia of Freemasonry

edit

Mackey's Encyclopedia of Freemasonry was an extension of his 1845 Lexicon of Freemasonry. First published in 1873 as a single A-Z volume in 1873, the second edition was also published as a single A-Z volume in 1878. It was first published as two volumes in 1912 after Mackey's death when it was revised by Edward L. Hawkins and William J. Hughan. Dickie birdie (talk) 10:44, 6 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

So what you're saying is that Mackey was indeed credited as the author of a two-volume Encyclopedia of Freemasonry (as stated in the article), and that only the date is incorrect? Then why, in your edit summary where you changed it, "There never was any Volume 2 of Encyclopedia of Freemasonry by Mackey. It was never published in two volumes. I have the earliest editions". You can't have it both ways, and this is why we don't reply on personal beliefs or knowledge to support edits here. MSJapan (talk) 16:11, 6 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
The 1896 edition of Mackey's Encyclopaedia of Freemasonry, revised by Charles T. McClenachan, was still a single A-Z volume [[1]]
Then we need to update the bibliography section to deal with the further editions. MSJapan (talk) 21:58, 6 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
It's a substantial list. Mackey's Encyclopaedia has been revised many times Dickie birdie (talk) 22:32, 6 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Gould's History of Freemasonry is another example Dickie birdie (talk) 22:37, 6 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Well, then I will simply take what WorldCat gives me and go from there. MSJapan (talk) 23:30, 6 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Publication dates

edit

Just noticed something in our list of Mackey's publications... two of them appear to have been published posthumously (The Symbolism of Freemasonry, which we say was published in 1882... and The History of Freemasonry: It's Legends and Traditions, which we say was published in 1906). Is this accurate? ... or are we listing one or both under the publication date of a later edition? Blueboar (talk) 11:15, 8 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

I don't know; apparently the recent discussion indicates there's a fair bit of expansion and revision to his works. I'm actually going to go pull a Worldcat listing now. MSJapan (talk) 16:16, 8 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
I think we need to spin out a biblio article - there are hundreds of hits. MSJapan (talk) 16:30, 8 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
