ss transylvania

edit

added ss transylvania as the possible troopship his account of being torpedoed on was written about since "How it Feels to be Torpedoed" describes;

1) "The big ship - she was near to 15,000 tons " (14348 gross tonnes according to wikipedia entry on transylvania)

2) "two japanese destroyer escorts" (Matsu and Sakaki according to wikipedia entry on transylvania)

3) similar accounts "one of our destroyers went away on an unknown quest, the other drew alongside" (The Matsu came alongside the Transylvania and began to take on board troops while the Sakaki circled to force the submarine to remain submerged - wikipedia entry on transylvania)

4) a near attack on the japanese destroyer "Then the destroyer maneuvered, and there was a flash and an explosion. A second torpedo had struck and the Japanese commander had just dodged it." (Twenty minutes later a second torpedo was seen coming straight for the Matsu, which saved herself by going astern at full speed. The torpedo hit the Transylvania instead, which sank immediately. - wikipedia entry on transylvania)

5) a daytime attack. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.110.98.79 (talkcontribs)

Hi, Thanks for the info. I'm a big fan of original research it's the highest form of intellectual pursuit. You've done the research and provided a rationale. Unfortunately Wikipedia is somewhat hobbled in that regard, it's more limited in scope. The rule on WP:Original research disallows it. But we can keep this discussion and hopefully it will lead to further investigation to find a published source that asserts the ship was (possibly) the Transylvania. -- GreenC 14:54, 12 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
