edit"a comprehensive news agency"? The ASP? Are you kidding me? It's a small-time student newspaper, with only about a dozen people who actually contribute to it. The paper is written with 4 computers, all of which hail from the Clinton administration, in an office that is about the size of a large dorm room. The content of the "news" is usually whining done in a manner to try and con the reader into believing that there is a valid news story hidden behind the complaining. There usually isn't. The editors usually print whatever they feel like printing, whether there is any interest among the student population or not. Relevance to the average UA student is not considered important among the ASP editors. Students are only allowed to write for the ASP if the editors and higher up staff members decide to allow said persons into what basically amounts to "The UAlbany Newspaper Club". I was shocked and amazed to find the ASP even somehow got a wikipedia entry. It's a waste of bandwidth and should be removed.

PERFECT. More mispellings from the Voice please!

It's very fitting that the Wikipedia article on the Albany Student Press demonstrates some of the same immature style and faltering grasp of the English language that are present in the publication itself. How great is it that the ASP fan group on Facebook has at least five more members than the anti-ASP group? Does there really need to be a difference between "its" and "it's"? Will anyone ever proofread anything?
- a UAlbany student sick of pretend journalism
yes, there is, and should be, a difference between "its" and "it's". the former is a possessive, as in, when referring to the paper, "its staff", i.e. the staff that it possesses, et cetera. the latter is a contraction of it is. as in, "it is a good/bad publication".
I love the ASP. I think that while it is not the most professional newspaper, it gets the job done. Some articles (i.e. the one in a recent issue concerning that "your digits" are actually the number of people you've slept with) are really stupid, but on the whole, they do a great job. You think the ASP sucks? Then submit articles to them and make it better. Also: Nick Reisman is my savior.
Can I ask why this is tagged for nutrality? -mtirv
Regardless of how anyone feels about The ASP, it is one of the oldest and still circulating newspapers. That alone makes it 'wiki-worthy'. The talk-page is also not an opinion-area. It is for discussion of the advancements that can be made to the article. The article does need some clean up, some citations and such. But it certainly is 'wiki-worthy'.--FiftyOneWicked 01:11, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Sourcing information
editI removed a great deal of information that was unsourced or poorly sourced. Please source any information to independent, third-party reporting from websites meeting WP:RS -- or at the very least, the related ASP article. Please note that edits made concerning living people -- whether they are named or not -- require stricter sourcing per WP:BLP. And making connections/conclusions that exist nowhere else but this Wikipedia article is WP:OR and WP:SYN. Flowanda | Talk 05:39, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Removal of notability template
editI'm going to remove the notability template. Continuous publication since 1892 (claimed), or at least since 1916 as a publication that's financially independent from its student association (verifiable) is alone enough to meet WP:NMEDIA newspaper criterion 2, in my opinion. Obviously, the article needs big improvements to its citations, and might be subject to some removals of unsourced content since it's remained in this state for so long. I'll add the source I mentioned above. Skeletor3000 (talk) 20:12, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
