The photograph of Eckford (far right) and his fellow pilots that inspired the Spirit of The Few monument

  • Reviewing... new enough, long enough, hook in article and cited. Some minor copy editing would be good to get the copyvio down a bit [1]. Will complete soon. Whispyhistory (talk) 10:45, 4 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
... QPQ not required, previous dyks were nominated by others. Copyvio appears okay discounting long quote. Article reads well with plenty of good sources but cannot access the books (AGF). The hook is in the article and followed by a citation to a reference which is accessible and contains hook fact. Image is clear and free, caption could be shorter. @Zawed and Whispyhistory:   While the hook isn't ungrabbing, I generally struggle with hooks that could ostensibly apply the exact same text to a number of other people. Eckford wasn't the only person in that photo, so presumably, the other five guys in that photo could one day get their own article, and then those would get proposed with basically the same hook as well. Is there a hook more specific to Eckford that could be found? theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 06:15, 15 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Theleekycauldron:... I can't think of one, unless @Philafrenzy: might kindly assist or Zawed comes up with another. ALT1 added, but needs the other image. Whispyhistory (talk) 07:56, 16 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

ALT1...that Alan Eckford (pictured) is credited with eight or nine enemy aircraft destroyed, two or three probably destroyed, and five damaged?

I'm not crazy about the proposed ALT1 hook as it seems to me to be somewhat 'conventional' for a fighter pilot to refer to their aerial victories (no disrespect intended, and thank you for proposing it in order to keep this DYK proposal alive). I much prefer the original due to it being different. How about rethinking the idea of the original hook to focus on the monument? I have gone ahead and created an article for the monument so that could serve as the primary subject of the hook but leave Eckford as a link. I have added an ALT2, and this would use the same photograph but with the caption: The photograph of the pilots of No. 32 Squadron that inspired the ‘Spirit of The Few’ Monument. @Theleekycauldron and Whispyhistory: How would that work? Zawed (talk) 10:39, 16 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

ALT2... that the Spirit of The Few Monument at Hawkinge is based on a photograph of Alan Eckford and other pilots of No. 32 Squadron in the Battle of Britain?

I've done prep work for some 2,500 nominations, and I think this is maybe the first time I've seen someone up and create an article to fix a moderate issue with a hook. That truly blows my mind.   I guess that's gonna need a review, Whispyhistory :) theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 10:46, 16 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
ALT3 ... that a photograph of Second World War flying ace Alan Eckford and his fellow pilots (pictured) inspired the Spirit of The Few monument at the Kent Battle of Britain Museum? Philafrenzy (talk) 11:08, 16 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
... reviewed both articles for both new hooks. Spirit of the Few Monument is new enough, no copyvio, no QPQ required, reads well and hooks are in both articles. Whispyhistory (talk) 10:12, 17 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
