Note that Bayanat company is not the one with a Wikipedia article
editAfter adding mention of the December 2023 announcement of a merger of Yahsat and Bayanat it was tempting to just put a wiki link on Bayanat - however, that article is NOT about the company that Yahsat is merging with. Rather it is about a similarly named company in Saudi Arabia. Just noting this so that future editors don’t make a similar mistake. - Dyork (talk) 22:25, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
- To follow up, the link to the UAE company named Bayanat is https://www.bayanat.ai/ - This the company providing geospatial solutions.
- Ownership here is interesting. In January 2020, Bayanat was acquired by UAE-based “Group 42”, a company focused on AI - https://www.thenationalnews.com/business/technology/artificial-intelligence-company-group-42-acquires-abu-dhabi-based-bayanat-1.963936
- In November 2020, the UAE’s sovereign wealth fund, Mubadala Investment Company, invested in Bayanat - https://www.mubadala.com/en/news/mubadala-takes-stake-group-42
- Mubadala owns Yahsat, and took the company public in 2021 - https://www.yahsat.com/en/news-and-media/news/2021/mubadala-owned-yahsat-commences-trading. [Note that a reliable source should be found to add this IPO to this Yahsat article.]
- There is also mention in this SpaceNews article that Mubadala was originally responsible for carving Bayanat out of the UAE armed forces over 10 years ago.
- So with the intended creation of “Space42” in 2024, it would seem that Mubadala is bringing the UAE entities of Yahsat and Bayanat back together again and mixing them in with Group 42 to create this new entity.
- Somehow this needs to be distilled into something for this article. The Mubadala article should also be updated with this info. (Mentioning all of this here in case another editor has time to do this before I do.) - Dyork (talk) 22:49, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
Yahsat now has 5 satellites in orbit
editLooking at Yahsat’s overview page it states that they have a fleet of five geostationary satellites. In looking at their Fleet page, they also count the two satellites of their mobile subsidiary Thuraya. I added a brief mention to the satellite’s section, but it could be expanded. - Dyork (talk) 23:05, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
