Talk:Airsoft pellets

Notes edit

With regard to the legal stuff, this is more to do with Airsoft (and the laws pertaining to it) rather than having anything to do with pellets. Suggest a severe edit and edit, perhaps to move this into the main article. Bigpinkthing 13:02, 21 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

There's also the page Legal issues in airsoft, which was created for that purpose. --UNHchabo 14:58, 22 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Legal issues in arisoft article is country specific information. Due to the lack of information regarding energy level limits, legal information in this article originates from multiple countries (En and Us). If this info went to Legal issues article it would result in a split of info to each country, lossing it's true meaning. anon
Maybe legal stuff is in the right place, because one must justify the energy limits refered in this article otherwise would make no sense. Maybe this article should be fully integrated in the main airsoft article, it would make alot more sense for both articles. anon

Is 0.80 g (Usually made of steel and comes with a polished finished) an airsoft pellet?

The Dangers to humans section not very useful. Penetration velocity should be expressed in terms of both mass and contact area. Contact area appears to be folded into the constant of the equation, but this greatly limits the usefulness (and accuracy) of the equation. The equation should be reformulated to result in joules/(contact area) - (mass times velocity divided by area), because this is the important measure for safety. The important safety information is (joules/contact area) to cause bleeding (or bruising not limited to the skin), penetration into tissues below the skin, breaking the 12th rib or hyoid bone (usually the easiest bones to break by impact, because of their size), and impact to damage an open eye. What about non-visible injuries? edit

Looking at the section on dangers to humans it talks about potential to pierce the skin, but doesn't say anything about shock effect, on the head for example. Objects don't have to penetrate the skull to cause brain damage. Some of the dangers mentioned seem a little cherry picked, that's all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.41.149.177 (talk) 16:09, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

It's very unlikely that such a tiny pellet would cause any major internal damage. Further to this, there is no proven evidence that any injury of this sort has ever occured. RWJP (talk) 00:15, 24 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

The pellets are so small and there mass is so little that the amount of force behind the pellets isn't even close to the amount of force required to cause severe or even a small amount of brain damage. The only real way a airsoft pellet will cause damage is if it were to strike and penetrate the eye. That's why it is important to were safety goggles at all times while dealing with airsoft guns. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Innocent3d (talkcontribs) 05:29, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion edit

Someone should do the calculations for the rate which a bbs slows and the perspective velocities at diffrent distances using regular FPS limits in order to best make engagement distances in reguard to force impacting the opposing player as opposed to muzzle velocity. Added a small paragraph about that. Confirm that it is enough for the proposes you were suggesting for. Jorgecarleitao (talk) 10:02, 18 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Another suggestion edit

Quote: "clear reds that were bleached by [[the sun]. Only 28 were found in Santee."

This seems like a remnant of something else. Because who was looking, and for what? They supposedly found 28 in Santee, but what relevance that has to any other part of the page certainly escapes me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.246.204.68 (talk) 09:28, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hop-Up and accuracy edit

The article currently states that hop-up doesn't improve horisntal accuracy. It actually does. Without hop up, the bbs leaving the barrel tend to tumble in an unpredictable way, while with hop-up the spin is consistent with each shot, leading to improved accuracy. User:UDoWs —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.186.252.116 (talk) 22:11, 11 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

The hop-up does increase accuracy because it allows the bb to travel the same distance every time. Accuracy really depends more on the length of the barrel and if there is a lot of wind where you are playing. Generally, the longer the barrel, the more accurate, because the bb stays going in a straight path for a longer period of time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Innocent3d (talkcontribs) 05:32, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Are non-speherical projectiles really worth mentioning? edit

The disuse of these projectiles dont seem as if they are worth mentioning here. Maybe for a "history of airsoft" article. novalord2

First Image edit

It seems kind of weird that the one picture of bbs is of really crappy ones. Could anyone possibly find a suitable image that fits all the copyright regulations? It would sure make the article look a lot better. Sorry I don't have an account, I just thought this was worth mentioning. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.149.234.80 (talk) 20:42, 2 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Exploding edit

They are not illegal or even hard to get, it's just rolled mercury fulminate. It just makes a loud noise. 99.236.221.124 (talk) 20:30, 6 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Metagradeable edit

I removed the "Metagradeable" section. The only use of the word in a Google search are WP mirror sites or quotes, and Stark Industries is from a comic book. 71.234.215.133 (talk) 06:50, 9 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
