"Because Ainu tend to be somewhat hirsute, at least in comparison to other East Asian populations, many Ainu stories maintain that their first ancestor was a bear." The bear is upheld as the most important creature in Ainu culture in many respects. The fact that this is due to Ainu hirsutism is dubious. The source is at the end of the paragraph and says "As for the creation of humankind, for the most part the Ainu think that since they are so hairy themselves, their ancestor must be the polar bear. " Doug Weller talk 20:14, 13 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
