Definition

While this article should exist in that it describes British people of direct African descent, the definition and content of the article are misleading. To say that it has superceded the terms Black British and British Afro-Caribbean community is incorrect. This is evidenced both by the way most members of the Caribbean British community self-identify and in the way they are referred-to by government or academic publications. The article should remain as a subset of the Black British community, but it should be re-written, expanded and properly referenced. --Vivenot 17:15, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

I've been expanding the British Afro-Caribbean community article, on the basis that the term refers to the traditional use, meaning Black Britons of Caribbean heritage, rather than Afro/Carribean meaning "black British". I believe that there could be three articles, 1-Black British, 2-British Afro-Caribbean community (merged with Caribbean British) and perhaps 3- African British. --Zleitzen 00:23, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Contrived Term

This sounds like either a contrived term, or one which has recently been invented for the purposes of academic study. Either way, if the term truely exists in anything more than occasional isolated usage, it should be made clear that this term is not one of widespread usage either amongst Africans, Britons or those defined by the term itself. Neither is the term evidence of any currency with hyphernated identities amongst those encompassed by the term. Britons in general do not follow the hyphernated ideology. Whether Africans do is up for debate - are there African Dutch, for instance, and does this term include those of Afrikaaner descent.

Bottom line: this article needs sources and citations, and fuller explanations for the term. If these are not forthcoming, then the article should be up for deletion. Anon.

Relevance ?

This article seems to be based on one source: an internet poll ! Is this really of suffieicnet relevance as a source for this article to exist ? If this is worth keeping, then expansion is needed - see the ever-popular-for-editing article 'African American' for debate over definitions such as these with the term 'african' being reserved for only a subset of people identifying with Africa. i.e. this term seems to be written so as to exclude from its meaning British people identifying with the following: Egyptians (esp those British-leaning people expelled by Nasser), Ugandans (those of South Asian extraction, but born in Africa, who were expelled by Idi Amin), Kenyans (people of Caucasian extraction born in Kenya). And that's without mentioning the people in South Africa. It seems that this somewhat contrived term is ill-thought out and one-sided in it's concept. I assume that is why the term isn't in use to any real extent.--Ordew 12:37, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
