-er or -or edit

adviser or advisor

Firefox always marked -or as misspelled so i changed to -er then my boss told me I was wrong and it was -or. So I looked it up.

http://www.agriculture.purdue.edu/agcomm/ontarget/0502/adviser_advisor.htm

so which is it? if -er is the real spelling maybe it should be the name of the article and -or should redirect to it.

Disambiguation or article edit

Hi, I believe that this page should be an article instead of an disambiguation page. An advisor is a form of occupation by itself, just like a Doctor, Teacher etc. People who search for Advisor on Wikipedia would be overwhelmed with links and find out it is actually an disambiguation page. Please review. Thanks. ★ Oliverlyc ★ ✈✈✈ Pop me a message! 05:13, 9 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Spelling edit

I went ahead and moved the page to adviser, which seems to be the clear winner for the following reasons:

  • given first in most US (M-W, AHD) and UK (Oxford, Chambers
  • more common over time, according to [s/graph?content=adviser%2Cadvisor&year_start=1800&year_end=2000&corpus=15&smoothing=3&share=&direct_url=t1%3B%2Cadviser%3B%2Cc0%3B.t1%3B%2Cadvisor%3B%2Cc0 Google Ngrams] (though advisor is catching up)

Disambiguation edit

I expanded the article and saw that it had a disambiguation tag. I removed the tag and then saw here that it was listed as associated with WikiProject Disambiguation. I am sure it was just over-looked, that it still had the tag, as the "article" is not a disambiguation page. Otr500 (talk) 01:11, 26 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

sourcechecked=mixed. I replaced the dead Purdue link with an updated one. The VTech link is a search that now fails on the original but the archive link works.  —jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 04:28, 15 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
