Leptin etc are adipokines. Your definition of cytokine is incorrect - the term is not limited to messengers that affect the immune system. See for example the wikipedia article on cytokines —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.188.105.230 (talk) 11:43, 18 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Adipokines are physiologically distinct from adipose-derived hormones. DO NOT MERGE! Hormones, whether derived from adipose or some other tissue, all enter the blood and exert their effect at distant sites. Adipokines, or adipose-derived cytokines, are released by the adipocyte and act locally. Hormones by definition are delivered by the blood to their site of action and do not act locally.Dcs002 (talk) 08:17, 9 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Leptin IS known to affect the immune system. various articles review this fact. e.g., La Cava, A & Matarese, G: The weight of leptin in immunity. Nat Rev Immunol, May 2004; 4(5):371-9. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.41.189.206 (talk) 13:24, 24 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Leptin, Adiponectin and Resistin DO have immune functions.

I only cited three papers, but there are a lot. So I recommend doing an in depth bibliographical research before making claims like those.

I recommend visiting to COPE [1]
