Security guard edit
Especially the British media have been in love with his past as an Argos security guard, but it is after all a trivial detail (essentially just a temporary job to save up for his education + possibly student job) with no relevance for either his involvement in politics or business career. Name of the coalition edit
There seems to be some struggle here over calling the coalition "Coalition 2016" or "Independent Coalition of Parties". I have not found any reliable source that uses either term. Someone just changed it to "Coalition 2016" and added a citation, but I cannot find "Coalition 2016" in that cited source. I will try "Coalition of opposition parties", with lowercase to indication that it is not a proper noun. —BarrelProof (talk) 17:26, 17 December 2016 (UTC)
- Oh, although "Coalition 2016" is not in the article, it is on the poster and in the caption of the poster shown in the cited article. So I self-reverted my change. I don't know whether that is a term that has been used consistently or not. - Coalition 2016 was originally used in the article, and has for some reason repeatedly been replaced with various mixes of independent, parties and coalition by two different posters, most likely taken this from the British press, though neither have provided sources. As I have pointed out earlier these names are descriptions of what the coalition was, not its name. Its fairly easy to see that "Coalition 2016" was used in the campaign, sometimes with the word Gambia thrown in, but mostly not, and it is also the name used by the Gambian press. - I thought the article I linked to said "and his Coalition 2016" after mentioning Barrow, but apparently that was another JollofNews article. But this isn't an issue where there is any real doubt. The only possible doubt is whether "Coalition Gambia 2016" was its official name and "Coalition 2016" an abbreviation, but I doubt that. At some point I will write an article about the coalition, but it will likely be after Christmas. Party affiliation edit
Another related matter is that Barrow actually left UDP in order to be a candidate for the coalition, so its incorrect to state UDP as his party. I am puzzled why someone has put the autobiography label on this article. Its based on African and international news sources, and there is no particular bias in it. First democratically elected President? edit
Is Barrow the first democratically elected President of the Gambia? I am unaware of any challenges to any of Dawda Jawara's elections as President, and only one or two of Jammeh's elections were outwardly questioned.
