Beginning cleanup

Lots of info belongs (and is already in) Adam Ant.

Also, there are inaccuracies and timeline issues. Gary Tibbs recorded Prince Charming and toured afterwards as well. Ant Rap predated Duck Rock, etc.

Merrick

Under "Kings of the wild frontier" the link under "Merrick" has a mistake. How can Merrick be "born" in 1983 if he was part of Adam and the Ants in 1981! Need to be checked (1) is this the real chris hughes of adam and the ants and (2) if it is can someone find his proper date of birth?

Different Chris Hughes. The Chris Hughes page should itself be a disambiguation page, IMO: the Ant's Chris Hughes is arguably more well known that the "Facebook" Chris Hughes. Early recordings

This Ants page goes from bad to worse! Lester Square was with the Ants for about 3 days in 1977, he was a member of the B Sides before Adam became "Adam" and started the Ants. Lester isn't on any recording, and he went off to finish his Art degree THEN formed Monochrome Set. Andy Warren joined MS in 1979, after recording Dirk with the Ants.

Lester Square/ early Ants

The Ants eventually formed in early 1977 consisting of Lester Square (guitar), Andy Warren (bass guitar) and Paul Flanagan (drums). Lester Square left to finish Art school and to later from The Monochrome Set just before the Ants played their first gig on May 5, 1977, at Muswell Hill.[1]. Mark Ryan replaced him on guitar and played the first gigs and recorded 'Plastic Surgery' (along with a few other unreleased demos) until he was replaced by Johnny Bivouac in October 1977. [2]

I posted this part. This page (http://www.hiljaiset.sci.fi/punknet/ants_e.htm) is wrong.

Major Cleanup Needed

This article needs a major cleanup, sources, pictures, audio clips, renaming sub titles ect, ect. Sadly I don't have the time myself as I'm a hard working school student. If anyone is interested please take care of the issue, still retain old sentences but add more info (but it has to have proper sources). As part of this can we merge the 'Members' and 'Former Members' headings in the Info box at the top? As the group has not existed for many years surely all of them are now 'former members'? Peteinterpol (talk) 10:04, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Videos

Lavish videos were produced for the Prince Charming singles, including Stand and Deliver, Prince Charming, and Antrap. In the Stand and Deliver video, Adam Ant is dressed as a "dandy highwayman" and generally indulges his exhibitionist tendencies.

Isn't that just opinion? many MANY fans would disagree! Adam and the Ants helped MTV to launch and made some of the most innovative Videos ever to be made. Adam storyboarded them all himself. I'd say Duran Duran videos are far worse and show off-y!

PS. Well, "Steve"...you are criticising the person who wrote his own "opinion" but then you go and do exactly the same thing yourself by giving a subjective opinion on Duran Duran videos.... "far worse and show off-y".

Reasons for band's break-up

This article has quite a bit of information on why the band broke up. Was not one of the reasons that some members of the band (it might have been Adam Ant himself) did not wish to go touring any more? Vorbee (talk) 16:59, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

Peacock Punk

Incident at the Children's Royal Variety Performance 1981

I believe Kevin Mooney was sacked when during their spot at something called the Children's Royal Variety Performance in 1981 (in front of The Queen I believe) he started to act like The Who and smash his bass guitar - immediately afterwards he either left the band or was sacked (he was of Irish descent and Anglo-Irish relations were extremely fractious at the time due to the Hunger Strikers etc and as I say it was in front of The Queen - he may have been motivated by that - or something else).

It was in front of Princess Margaret. He was sacked for swinging the bass around then dropping it on the floor. No one, least of all Kevin, has ever suggested it was anything to do with Kevin being Irish.2.24.71.91 (talk) 01:44, 19 September 2022 (UTC)

October 2022

This is a quick note on the edits that I have done to the this page of the period July - October 2022. What I have done is mostly added sources, done some rephrasing and reorganising as to try and create a chronological overview. For this I have used the following sources:

• The Q Book of Punk Legends (taken from the Guinness Book of Rock Stars
• Rock: The Rough Guide (1st edition)
• The Rolling Stone album guide
• Assorted articles

I mostly used the Official UK chart for references. The concert tours proved problematic. I did have an article from the NME reprinted in NME Originals 80s that was useful. I also found an interesting article from the Washington Post about the US tour. @Romomusicfan thanks for your comment on my talk page. The main reason why I moved the tours into the text was the lack of references - which do feature in the examples that you mention.

I will ping a number of editors to check what I have done.

Others worked on the article in that same time frame. An IP editor from Birmingham removed the cited criticism about being a "joke band".[1] What are you thoughts about that paragraph removed from the Legacy section? Binksternet (talk) 23:50, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

I was the IP editor in question, I am now logged in.

Another editor some time back insisted on including it. Although the author of the quote, Simon Price is undoubtedly an Ant fan, I strongly disagree with the idea that his fellow music journalists constituted the "punk cognoscenti". Burchill and Parsons and Morley were not cognoscent about anything to do with punk, they were just music journalists. The actual congnoscenti from both the first two waves of punk treated Adam with respect - he himself was very much part of the inner circle of the first wave and, until his commercial breakthrough, he was a major hero to the second wave.
