Updating the Title to Partners In Aid (due to Organisational Name Change)

Hello,

I cannot work out how to update the title of the subject page from "Action Aid Australia" to "Partners in Aid". I would also like to have a re-direct page if someone enters "Action Aid Australia" - to either the new organisation called "ActionAid Australia" (note no space between Action and Aid) or the organisation formerly known as "Action Aid Australia - now Partners in Aid".

Hi Kri001, I didn't see your note until after I'd made some changes to include both Partners in Aid and AUSTCARE in the Action Aid Australia article.

I wasn't sure whether the organisations were notable enough to be listed in separate articles, so I have redirected AUSTCARE and Partners In Aid to this page (this makes it easy to split the page in future if enough material is added).

A quick scan of articles that link here shows that AUSTCARE is the more notable organisation on Wikipedia (5 article links) vs Action Aid Australia (now Partners In Aid) (1 article link), and Partners In Aid (0 article links). But this could change as the names become more well-known.

Given that the name transfer was very recent (July 2009), I also thought it best to leave the articles combined - as most references to Action Aid Australia could refer to either article.

I have made the following changes:

• Added sections for the name transfer, AUSTCARE, and Partners In Aid
• Redirected AUSTCARE and Partners In Aid to Action Aid Australia
• Linked references to AUSTCARE across wikipedia to AUSTCARE

• Redirected ActionAid Australia (no space) to Action Aid Australia - the space seemed insignificant for people searching for an article, and on the AUSTCARE website.

• Added disambiguation between AUSTCARE and CARE Australia

Notability of Article (July 2009)

Support for Notability

This article now has a significant number of references to external information about AUSTCARE and Partners In Aid. It is no longer an Orphan, as at least 7 articles link to it.

Both organisations have been established for around 50 years, and both appear to have a national/international presence. Before AUSTCARE's adoption of the Action Aid Australia name, it had a national presence which is still distinct from its role as an affiliate of Action Aid.

The name change also makes a merger with Action Aid (parent organisation) problematic.

Issues with Notability

However, the independent, secondary sources listed have a sparse amount of information available. This may be able to be resolved by journal articles, biographies, or other printed material.

Request for Assistance

The documented notability of the article has been improved, but it is still unclear to me whether it is notable enough. Can another editor review the notability of this article, and remove the notice if satisfied?

Splitting the Article into AUSTCARE and Partners in Aid

I would like to add the template

to Action Aid Australia, in order to split out ActionAid Australia (the new organisation) and Partners in Aid (formerly known as Action Aid Australia) as there are more references to both across Wikipedia. The Partners in Aid entry also has more off-Wikipedia references now. Partners In Aid redirects to Action Aid Australia. I'm unsure as to how to update Partners in aid and Partners In Aid (note capitalisation) to be Partners in Aid. I would expect that Transfer of Ownership of the ActionAid Australia Name would appear on both pages, and that the split would occur from History of Partners In Aid (formerly Action Aid Australia) onwards (references and links outstanding). Apologies if I'm not using the templates exactly to protocol - I am almost a Luddite and enjoying the challenge of learning how to edit. Hi Kri001, I understand that Partners In Aid and AUSTCARE are separate organisations, and may need separate pages. It is technically possible to split the article into two, and add disambiguation links at the top of the article. These links would avoid confusion over the Action Aid Australia name (see CARE (relief agency) for an existing example). We could then fix the redirects to point to the correct articles.

However, I am concerned that a separate Partners In Aid article could fail the notability and orphan tests, and be nominated for deletion. These tests are used to determine which articles are important enough to be in the encyclopedia. In particular:

• Length: The article is quite short, and splitting it would lead to two, shorter articles
• Orphan: Partners In Aid has 2 article links. According to WP:Orphan, an Orphan is "An article with fewer than three incoming links". I was unable to find any unlinked mentions of Partners in Aid on Wikipedia using a google search http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q="partners+in+aid"+site:en.wikipedia.org

• (AUSTCARE has 7 article links (including links through redirects). This means that it would not be an orphan if split.)

• Notability: Both AUSTCARE and Partners in Aid have notability issues - their work is "national or international in scope", but their activities have not been "verified (in the article) by third-party, independent, reliable sources" (some of which could be found on other Wikipedia articles that link to the article). See the Wikipedia guidelines for notability of non-commercial organisations for more details.

I think that the article should be improved to address these issues before splitting it. That would give the splits the best chance of survival and further development.

In summary, the article can be improved by:

• Adding links to Partners In Aid
• Adding references to third-party, independent, reliable sources for both organisations
• Adding content to the article, and "cleaning up" existing content
