Merge Acholi and Acholi language

Acholi language and Acholi people should be merged. Linguists persist on making the difference, but Acholi people identify with their language - as many people do. Separating the people and their language (in this case) will only give two poor articles.

I disagree on principle, not because I'm a linguist, but because Wikipedia is not paper. The indisputable fact that people identify with their language doesn't render their language a non-encyclopedic subject in itself. However, as long as we don't have a very detailed article about either of the two, it might be a good idea to merge them. — mark 00:21, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
I do not begrudge Acholi language its rightful place on Wikipedia. My concern is that the article mat stay on stub status. As you have pointed out, we would achieve more by focussing on one article.--Ezeu 08:48, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
OK. I don't think this is a very good moment to merge the two, Acholi language being the African COTW and all. — mark 08:24, 24 August 2005 (UTC)

I've been adding something on the phonology, and I'm planning to add more. Please check my examples; I don't trust them completely because they're from fairly old grammars and I know there have been all sorts of orthographic problems and solutions throughout the years. — mark 08:56, 24 August 2005 (UTC)

Glad to see that the pages have not been merged. The strong identity with language is fine, but each article can link to the other. --A12n 18:05, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Well, it was a silly suggestion, I admit. --Ezeu 17:30, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
