The date of the experiment is wrong. It was in the 1930's not 1953. By then they already knew what DNA was and where it was located.

Exist homonymy with a fungal Genus edit

I've seen several times, the term "Acetabularia" being used for sort of agaric.

I've first seen such use in a very old-book several years ago (but can't remember its name or author). However there are usage in internet. Such as

1. an wikimedia file (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Coloured_Figures_of_English_Fungi_or_Mushrooms_-_t._303.png) 's description includes ... "Note that the name Acetabularia is now validly used for a genus of algae, however"  ; (though the writer kept space for doubt, that-one particular specimen in file is correctly identified or not)

2. http://www.mycobank.org/BioloMICS.aspx?TableKey=14682616000000067&Rec=59685&Fields=All .

Though this source tells synonyms for it are; Entoloma, Agaricus, Psalliota etc. but up to my knowledge they are not same... because the identification key we used at University, contains separate use of them. Maybe long nomenclatural history is there.

3. http://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/59700-Acetabularia-acetabulosa .

So I request for a disambiguation or distinction hatnote on this algae page whith proper reference.

  • The fungus name usage is very unimportant and now invalid, and even the equivalent correct current name of this genus (Cyphellopus) has very little in WP. For the moment I just added an explanatory sentence in the etymology section of the alga page. Please change this if you want to do it differently.
