Early 2016 article updates and new sources

Hi all, I'm back again to propose a few edits to bring existing information on this page up-to-date. Also, I have identified sources for some material recently deleted from this page, and would like to see if editors could re-add these details now they're appropriately supported:

Infobox and introduction updates

 • First, the source provided for "Services" in the infobox no longer supports that description of Accenture. A more accurate description would be:
strategy, consulting, digital, technology and operations.
Citation:
 • Similarly, the company description in the lead sentence is outdated, too. This could be rewritten to say:
Accenture is a multinational management consulting services company.
Citation:
 • Also, the final sentence of the lead paragraph should be updated to say that Accenture's current clients:
include 94 of the Fortune Global 100 and more than 80 percent of the Fortune Global 500.
Citation:

Formation and early years

Most of the information under the Formation and early years subhead was deleted on October 23, 2015 due to the lack of references. Below, I've rewritten that section, including new third-party sources to support the details.

Formation and early years
Accenture began as the business and technology consulting division of accounting firm Arthur Andersen.[1] Arthur Andersen's first job in computer consulting came in the early 1950s, when the firm conducted a feasibility study for General Electric to install a computer at Appliance Park in Louisville, Kentucky.[2] In 1953, the firm urged GE to install a UNIVAC I computer and printer.[3] This system is believed to be the first commercial use of a computer in the U.S.[4] Joseph Glickauf, an early pioneer of computer consulting, held a position as head of Arthur Andersen's administrative services division.[2]

Marketing, branding and identity

On October 23, 2015, an editor deleted the mention of Accenture's slogan from the Marketing, branding and identity section. I found a New York Times story about Accenture's marketing efforts, based on which I'd like to request this be reinstated, in addition to basic info about recent marketing efforts supported by the Times article and Interbrand's website. I've written a paragraph that can be added to the beginning of the existing Marketing, branding and identity section, if editors think it's appropriate:

Marketing, branding and identity
In 2011, Accenture launched a new campaign of results-based ads featuring clients such as Marriott, Unilever and the Royal Shakespeare Company alongside its slogan “High performance. Delivered”.[1] As of 2015, Interbrand ranked Accenture No. 42 on its list of best global brands. The brand consultancy noted Accenture's focus on branding and marketing of its Accenture Strategy, Accenture Consulting, Accenture Digital, Accenture Technology and Accenture Operations divisions.[2]

Please note that I have a conflict of interest as this request is made on behalf of Accenture. As I've mentioned previously on this page, I work for Beutler Ink, via which I am currently contracted to work on Accenture-related articles by PR agency Burson Marsteller. If anyone can take a look at my suggestions and add the new material to the article, I'd be most grateful. Thanks! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 20:16, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

All done. And well done on making it really easy to review and then implement! Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 00:15, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

Cleanup + adding recent awards

Hi all, I'm here again with a few more edits to update and clean up this page a bit. My suggestions include addressing vandalism, removing misleading material and updating recent awards. Each request is laid out below. Full disclosure: I have a conflict of interest as this request is made on behalf of Accenture. I work for Beutler Ink, via which I am currently contracted to work on Accenture-related articles by PR agency Burson Marsteller. Please take a look at my suggestions and make any of the edits that seem appropriate. I'd be most grateful.

Infobox vandalism

Under Key people in the infobox, the article lists "edward joseph". This should be removed, as there is no Accenture official named Edward Joseph.

Services and operations

I'd like to request the Services and operations section be edited as follows: In addition to paring down the language, I removed the dates listed as they are a bit misleading. As it reads now, it seems as though Accenture just started offering these overall services in the last few years, which is incorrect. (It looks like the dates refer to when these service areas were given their current names and structure.) Also, one of the dates is wrong: Accenture Technology was not created in 2003. In light of the error and the potential to mislead, it seems appropriate to remove the dates altogether. Also, I have re-established the order of these services as they appeared before they were incorrectly dated and put in "chronological order".

Awards and honours

There are a few suggestions I have for this section.

 • There are more recent rankings that can be added to bring this up-to-date, and I've included these below
 • I also recommend renaming the section Recent awards and honors, as this section has historically posted Accenture's most-recent recognition
 • Lastly, I suggest we delete recognition as a leader for Worldwide Cloud Professional Services by research firm IDC and best employer in 2014 in the Netherlands by newspaper NRC Handelsblad. These don't seem to fit with the rest of the recognition listed here, which is global in scale

Here's what I think a new, updated Recent awards and honors could look like:

Lastly, two photos were added to this section in November. Can these photos be removed? They are both generic in content and do not add any particular context or portray anything interesting about Accenture; these could be any office space for any company.

I'm happy to answer any questions here. Thanks! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 18:13, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

Done. And thanks for presenting the mark ups so professionally. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 22:44, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi - I would leave then for a few years: they don't do any harm. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 22:37, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Mid-2016 update request

Hi all, I'm here with a handful of suggested updates. Mainly, I see some opportunities to freshen up this article and rewrite a couple awkward sentences. Full disclosure: As I have noted here in the past, I have a conflict of interest as this request is made on behalf of Accenture as part of my work with Beutler Ink, via which I am currently contracted to work on Accenture-related articles by PR agency Burson-Marsteller. Below, I have posted my proposed edits, which are fairly straightforward. I'd be very grateful if anyone could review my suggestions and make edits if they agree.

Infobox
 • Under number of employees, please replace 373,000 with 375,000.[1]
Reference markup

Introduction
 • The lead sentence does not fully capture the breadth of Accenture's work. While using a citation in the lead sentence is not necessary, this Forbes Global 2000 post shows how Accenture has been described by others. I propose the lead sentence read as follows:
Suggested lead
Accenture PLC is a global professional services company and provides strategy, consulting, digital, technology and operations services.
 • The second sentence reads awkwardly. I propose rewriting as follows:
Proposed rewrite
It has been incorporated in Dublin, Ireland, since 1 September 2009.
Markup
It has been incorporated in Dublin, Ireland, since 1 September 2009.
 • Accenture employs about 48,000 in the U.S., not 60,000.[2]

 • The last sentence of the introduction also needs an update with this year's ranking. It should read:
Proposed update
In 2016, Fortune magazine named it as the world's most admired Information Technology Services company.[3]
Markup

Emergence of Accenture
 • The beginning of the second paragraph reads a little awkwardly. I suggest rewriting as follows:
Proposed rewrite
On 19 July 2001, Accenture’s initial public offering (IPO) was priced at $14.50 per share, and the shares began trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE); Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley served as its lead underwriters.

Recent awards and honours
 • I also suggest adding the following updates to awards Accenture has received since my last request here. In a prior discussion here, an editor recommended leaving older awards for a few years. If that's still the case, I suggest adding the recent rankings I've listed. However, I think it would be fine should editors want to remove the older awards, keeping this as a list of only the most recent major awards.
New awards to add
 • In 2016, the firm was named 15th in the Top 50 Companies for Diversity by DiversityInc.[4]
 • In 2016, Corporate Responsibility Magazine named Accenture No. 14 in their top 100 Best Corporate Citizens.[5]

Late 2016 update request

Hi all, I'm back with another round of updates. These changes are mainly factual updates and freshening up numbers. Also, I'm hoping that two more recent edits—the Industry parameter in the infobox and the company description in the lead sentence—could be reverted as they are not entirely accurate. To help clarify what I'm asking for, I've separated my requests below by section.

As noted here in the past, I have a conflict of interest as this request is made on behalf of Accenture as part of my work with Beutler Ink, via which I am currently contracted to work on Accenture-related articles by PR agency Burson-Marsteller.

Introduction
 • My proposed update for the intro would change the company description back to the wording I'd proposed, and was implemented, in my July edit request. It also adds updated figures with 2016 net revenues, employees and percentage of the Fortune Global 500 list as Accenture clients.
Proposed introduction
Accenture PLC is a global professional services company and provides strategy, consulting, digital, technology and operations services. It has been incorporated in Dublin, Ireland, since 1 September 2009. It is the world's largest consulting firm as measured by revenues[6] and is a Fortune Global 500 company.[7] As of 2016, the company reported net revenues of $32.9 billion,[4] with more than 384,000 employees[5] serving clients in more than 200 cities in 120 countries.[8] In 2015, Accenture had about 130,000 employees in India, more than in any other country, about 48,000 in the US,[9] and about 50,000 in the Philippines.[10] Accenture's current clients include 94 of the Fortune Global 100 and more than three-quarters of the Fortune Global 500.[11]

Recent awards and honours
 • Finally, I propose either updating the existing bullet point on Accenture's Fortune Global 500 ranking OR adding a new bullet with the 2016 number.
Proposed introduction
 • In 2016, Accenture was ranked No. 312 on the Fortune Global 500 list.[12]

Early 2017 update request

Hi all, I'm back with my first request for 2017 on behalf of Accenture via Burson-Marsteller as part of my work with Beutler Ink. I've identified three simple edits I hope you'll agree will make this article better. To avoid confusion, I've separated my requests below by section. Jumping right in:

History
 • In the Formation and early years part of this section, an IP editor added a typo into the article. Can someone delete the word "the" before General Electric?
Marketing, branding and identity
 • The following sentence is outdated: As of 2015, Interbrand ranked Accenture No. 42 on its list of best global brands.
To make this current, editors can replace it with the following: As of 2016, Interbrand ranked Accenture No. 37 of its list of best global brands.[1]
Markup
As of 2016, Interbrand ranked Accenture No. 37 of its list of best global brands.
Recent awards and honours
 • The 6th bullet point can be deleted: The firm was named by Fortune magazine as one of the top 100 companies to work for from 2009-2015.
There is a line four bullet points below that is nearly identical, yet is updated to reflect 2016, so the above bullet point is unneccessary.
 • Also, it appears as though some stray coding made it into this section just before the very last bullet point. If you look at the live article, you will see Markup [hide] appears in the list. This should also be removed.

I have a conflict of interest as this request is made on behalf of Accenture as part of my work with Beutler Ink, via which I am currently contracted to work on Accenture-related articles by PR agency Burson-Marsteller.

As always, I'm happy to answer any questions or discuss any of these requested edits Thanks in advance! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 21:46, 17 January 2017 (UTC)
