Bluffmaster

While it has not done well in India, the story is apparently different in USA - $160,000 in the first week and $220,000 in the 2nd week - the first time a mainstream Bollywood movie has increased collections in second week (typically, it is a 20% decline). --Gurubrahma 14:12, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

Personal lives

I myself do not feel that who is dating whom is proper fare for an encyclopedia. Marriages yes, long-term affairs on the part of people now dead, yes, dating right now, no. We aren't a gossip column. Also ... I have a feeling that a lot (not all, but a lot) of this is contrived by press agents to get buzz for a film. I left the bit re the actor's personal life, but it doesn't sit well with me. Age

How old is This guy becoz IMDB says he is 41 and Wiki says he is 30..Confused..???Cometstyles 13:18, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

He can't be 40-odd, since that would make him only slightly younger than SRK, which is clearly not possible. xC | 06:00, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

wedding

does the wedding need so much data. i think we should revisit the section after the completion of the wedding and summarize the event into no more than 2 or 3 lines
also, the content is factually incorrect. how can millions of indians be waiting outside the bachchan's residence?Kalyan 06:50, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

I have removed all that irrelevant information from the article. This is an encyclopedia, not a tabloid newspaper. Achitnis 07:48, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

It wouldn;t be millions, although as per the TV channels, dozens would be more appropriate. As for the details of the wedding, certain parts, such as the Jahnvi Kapoor incident(s) and the painting by MF Hussain would classify as notable. Just a thought...
We could give it a couple of days more, so its clear what incidents were notable and what were just general circus acts. References would be easy to get. It could be put in later. xC | 06:03, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
The Jahnvi Kapoor "incident" certainly does not deserve "immortalization" on wikipedia. It was a publicity stunt, by someone who needed/wanted the publicity (she didn't even hurt herself badly - just enough to get noticed). I can probably name a dozen girls in my immediate neighbourhood who thought their life had come to an end because our hereo got married, but making a list of them here would probably be as inappropriate as singling out Jahnvi Kapoor for "notability". I can point out lots and lots of such "incidents" (try the nutcase who filed a case when Priyanka Gandhi got married, claiming he was married to her) which don't deserve mention on Wikipedia. Let's not set a bad precedent here. Achitnis 11:36, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
Perhaps. Fact is she did try to kill herself, created a ruckus and recieved a lot of media coverage. Now WP:RECENT exists, and this pretty much qualifies as a recent event so it might be worth a look at. Its not everyday that fans try to kill themselves outside celebrity mandaps, and it certainly doesn't happen to all filmstars. However WP:N is vague on such issues, while WP:RECENT suggests the ten-year test. Either way, its probably not encyclopedic, although articles like Jennifer_Wilbanks do exist... Question: did they (Abhishek and Aishwarya) do a lot of dancing after the wedding? They're pretty good at that sort of thing. — Rickyrab | Talk 06:44, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Rakesh Pradhan who?

Somebody just screwed up the page big time. I just wanted to check with Abhishek Bachchan on the Wiki and woila I find the name mentioned as Rakesh Pradhan. Some guy must have replaced his name with Abhishek's. I made the changes. ~~ice~~ 05:00, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

I've removed a couple of paragraphs of unsourced material -- as per the warning at the top of this page, because it violates Wikipedia policy. If it can be backed up with references, by all means return it. Accounting4Taste 18:28, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Continuing with this policy, I have also removed un-wiki material which has been here for nearly a year now. Who cares abuot that person's opinion on who someone should marry? This is an encyclopedia, and encyclopedias are neutral and stick to FACTS. --Maurice45 (talk) 20:45, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

17 flops

The career section includes a sentence "Abhishek went on to give a string of 17 flops". I think it's unnecessary. Opinions? ShahidTalk2me 11:05, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

In an industry as fickle as the movie business, box office fate and track are a defining feature of an actor's curriculum vitæ. A string of 17 flops is pretty glaring and if a section is titled 'career', it is pertinent information and must definitely find mention. That is my take on this issue and is independent of the rest of what I have written below.

If you have been a bollywood 'observer', Abhishek's career has been characterized by the following: inordinately large number of unsuccessful films, lack of solo hits and not viewed as a bankable actor, some of the more unsavory comments have been that: he continues to get movies because of his fathers' connections, lingers on at the cost of more talented but 'unconnected' new comers, perpetuates the 'closed group' image of the movie business. On the positive side, he has managed to survive the many failures in his career and continues to deliver the occasional brilliant performance, he's had notable, albeit few, successes.

So, aside from the unsavory comments, the career section has to be a balance of everything. I find the write-up overly glossy and is not balanced. Drona for example was one of the most expensive bollywood movies and fared extremely badly, I think that should find a mention. The fact that Abhishek has just 1 solo hit in his 10 year long career should find mention. otherwise this sounds no better than a paid-for article in bombay times.

--- and as i was writing the above today morning, Prahlad Kakkar gave open vent to what I said was 'unsavory' link. But I will not be allowed to update this on this page, anyway I shall try. Gtyagi60 (talk) 05:44, 28 October 2010 (UTC)gtyagi60

A string of 17 flops looks awful wording. "Flop" is a horrible word to use anyway. Different films may "flop" in different ways too.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:57, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

'flop' and 'hit' is industry parlance and is used by actors themselves (e.g. Abhishek himself used it to describe the fate of his films link), industry critics & commentators and the media. The word is not unparliamentary, not a discriminatory slur and not a 'bad' word. It might be unpalatable to some because it denotes failure, but that does not justify banning its usage on wikipedia. And anyway, what is a "horrible" word? Who decides which words are "horrible"? pls give me other examples of "horrible" words. and in this context, when it is a word in wide circulation and the industry itself uses it to describe unsuccessful movies, what qualifies you or any of us to ban its usage on wikipedia? Gtyagi60 (talk) 04:46, 29 October 2010 (UTC)gtyagi60

As predicted the edits were deleted and what's more, I see you guys are ganging up against me link Gtyagi60 (talk) 05:23, 29 October 2010 (UTC)gtyagi60

Who decides which words are "horrible"? Read WP:Peacock. Oh blablabla was a "superhit" and his performance was very famous is a typical Indian POV pusher type line. "Flop" is just as bad, this is supposed to be an encyclopedia not a Bollywood blog. Rather than flop we say "poorly received", much more sophisticated.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:22, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

The negative equivalent to 'superhit' is 'disaster'. 'flop' is the failure equivalent of 'hit'. if we want to disallow usage of 'flop', we should not use 'hit' either, and should limit ourselves to saying the movie "performed well", but instead we find 'hit' and 'superhit' used liberally but shirk from calling a movie a flop. This positively biases the write-ups. i think a decision to disallow 'flop' and 'hit' should be wider debate and not something to be settled between the two of us. . Also a string of 17 flops is pretty glaring and i do not think mentioning 3 movies and saying 'without much success' conveys the gravity and does justice to the facts. Gtyagi60 (talk) 11:37, 29 October 2010 (UTC)gtyagi60

I am fine with the usage of "poorly received" provided we change the hits to "performed well" or an equally mild equivalent on this, and on other bollywood pages; like in the 'hits' mentioned on the 'preity zinta' page. if we are in agreement over this then we can revert to blofeld's changes Gtyagi60 ([[User talfeld. Flop is too strong a word. An encyclopedia should use more specific terms. A 'hit' is an okay word from time to time, but not always. 'Flop' is a horrible word. According to the {{Infobox person}}, a person's residence should be added only if it's different from his birth place, so if he was born in Mumbai his residence (which is also Mumbai) should not be added. ShahidTalk2me 13:56, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Is wikipedia partial towards salman khan 20 MAY 2011

movies of abhishek like guru and bunty aur babli have thier gross revenues as amount given in "nett gross revenue section" of boxofficeindia.com... which reduces it considerably as compared to the figures of salman khan movies which have figures of revenue , qouted from "gross revenue" section and not from "net gross revenue section" of BOI. ex-- dabangg and wanted also gross revenue of dum maaro dum is "32 crores in india and 51 crores worldwide" according to BOXOOFICEINDIA.COM and GLAMSHAM.COM. but wikipedia qoutes it to be 22 crores... one of user even made it to 7 crores yesterday... is this not tarring the image of wikipedia... and if wikipedia accepts BOI.COM as standard source of box office... can anyone tell me... how on earth a movie of budget 20crores DMD is labelled flop after making 32 crores in domestic circuit.. and a movie like thank you is tagged average after loosin 9 crores on box office...

Mentioning Caste

Dear Editors!
There has been a discussion on India Portal related to mentioning of caste of subjects. The point is that mentioning caste of people, who have nothing to do with their caste, is found to be unnecessary by few editors. Hence the caste of the subject person needs to be deleted from the biography. I am not deleting the caste as of now but am only posting this here so that the regular editors of this article are well aware of it beforehand and no edit-wars take place. For details of discussion held on the portal please refer Wikipedia_talk:Noticeboard_for_India-related_topics#Mentioning_caste_of_Individuals. Your views if any are welcome there or even here.
And.... as the reasons of exclusion of caste pointed out were "irrelavant to notability of subject person", "privacy of the subject person", "inclusion of caste is like branding individuals", etc. other information included in the article which also fall under these cases will also be removed after discussions. Examples of it included religion, non-notable spouse's and children's and parents' information, previous occupation, lived in places, non-notability related educational qualification, etc.
Your views on this are also welcome here or at the India portal. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 17:57, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

Not here, please. There is a community discussion taking place at WT:INB and I would advise people to read the entire discussion before forming an opinion because the above summary is incorrect. Nothing more need be said here. - Sitush (talk) 02:08, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Abhishek outside India

He is known outside of India for being former Miss World Aishwarya Rai's husband and Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan's son. His mother Jaya Bachchan has also been a leading actress in Bollywood.

Truth needs to be here on Wikipedia. Any kind of truth. Both Aishwarya and Amitabh have semi protected pages on Wiki, wax statues in Tausadds meuseum, fan following on facebook unlike Abhishek. Abhishek accompanied Aishwarya to the Cannes Film festival, where she has been very regular, almost immediately after marriage. Also, Oprah Winfrey, a friend of Aishwarya also had Abhishek with Aishwarya Rai on her show. Undoubtedly, Aishwarya has been a leading actress in Bollywood, whereas Abhishek has not.All these are not biased opinions but truths. And should be included on Wikipedia without any problem. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aish.ego (talkcontribs) 13:02, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

First of all, is there any reference which says so? I mean direct reference, not conclusions based upon some observations.--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 13:07, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
All of Aishwarya Rai's Hollywood releases were mega-flops. She got her breakthrough in Bollywood with Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam-the film became a hit because of the presence of Salman Khan. Her second decent-grossing film, Devdas (2002 Hindi film) starred Shahrukh Khan and therefore became a hit. Her last decent-grossing Bollywood film as of now, Dhoom 2, became a hit because of Hrithik Roshan. Enthiran-Hindi version flopped-was a success worldwide because of Rajinikanth. Most of her films are actually flops.--Isaacsirup (talk) 00:06, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
CAn you prove her hits Dhoom 2, Devdas, Jodha Akbar, Action Replayy her being Miss world, (and at least she got hollywood films compared to abhishek), her critical acclaim for guzarish, these are all some one else's harwork and deservings? She was ranked one of the pretiest women on earth several times, She has wax statues in Taussads and a similar French meuseum, Her 2, 400, 000 something fans on a social nwrking site compared to 200,000 something of Abhsihek..She is the fourth Indian to be awarded French award highest Order of France, Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Also see how generally he is talked about , aishwarya's hubby and amitabh's son, here is one of the links from times of india http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/keyword/abhishek-bachchan. Please can u read this carefully please- Aishwarya Rai. Thanks aish.ego (talk) 06:08, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

That's what he is

The introductory part of this article exaggereates bachchan's achievements, and to an initially neutral reader it may give an impression that he is one of the most successful actors. And what is a full-fledged movie star by the way? Also, either his achievements should be moved down to some other relavant section, or this sentence that I have added WITH VERIFIABILITY :"Bachchan is yet to achieve stardom" should be added. I think I am right people? aish.ego (talk) 08:43, 21 September 2013 (UTC)

First film with Aishwarya Rai

Mani Ratnam's Guru (2007), ... The film starred him alongside Aishwarya Rai (making his first film with Aishwarya Rai)
