Jewish or not? edit

Erkko is Jewish? Really? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.76.247.55 (talk) 16:54, 12 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah it is plausible, a googling of "aatos erkko" +juutalainen shows there is quite a few neo-nazis whining over his religion. Could be worth sourcing trustworthily though... Gillis 17:52, 12 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I believe his mother was a Jew, hence according to the custom, he's considered as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.76.247.55 (talk) 00:14, 17 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes the family on his Fathers side is as finnish as can be(his grandfather being the person to move to Helsinki) from central finland. I doubt there were many jews there in those days. Gillis 05:24, 17 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

It did strike me as a bit implausible at first, but religion is such a taboo subject in Finland it's scarcely a surprise that we are not always aware of the affiliations of even the most prominent members of society. --Agamemnon2 21:51, 21 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I removed the "Finnish Jews" category tag, because it's unsourced. According to [1] his father Eljas Erkko was married to Eugenia Violet Sutcliffe, who must be his mother. Whether Sutcliffe was Jewish or not, is not known. Even if she was Jewish, it does not necessarily mean that Aatos Erkko is Jewish in a religious sense. I'd wager to say that if he's religious, he's Lutheran like his father. In any case, there should be a source for this claim. Victor Chmara 16:13, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Erkko's net worth edit

I reverted Gillis's edit. I don't think it's relevant to this article what his taxable wealth is, or why this figure differs from the value of the shares he owns. It just confuses the reader. What matters is how much he would have if he liquidated all of his assets. Victor Chmara 20:51, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well then the happy wikipedia reader goes on to google up "suomen rikkaimmat" or something like that and ends up on some page by iltalehti that uses tax-figures. (such as was the figures before i put in his real value based on a simple calculation of stock worth and public information of his stake in Sanoma-WSOY). Gillis 13:25, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
This is the English Wikipedia. Presumably, if someone can read Iltalehti, he'll read the Erkko article of the Finnish Wikipedia, while English-speakers rely on this one. Information on the difference between taxable assets and all assets could be added to the Finnish article, but I don't think that is necessary, either. People are interested in how rich he is, not in how much he pays taxes. Victor Chmara 15:11, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Don't think you should tell the readers what they are interested in ;) I for one would be interested to know where the difference comes from... but oh well, it's not really a big deal to me... Gillis 07:55, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I agree it's not a big deal. -Htm (talk) 19:42, 21 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
