It would be interesting to know how long the Manchester opening was. If it follows the pattern of Maid of the Mountains, it will have been for little more than to test audience reaction. Changes would then be made as necessary before opening in London. Since Maid of the Mountain was a record breaker, it is possible that Southern Maid was extensively delayed, hence the short runs elsewhere before finally opening properly in 1920.
