As per the Dutch Wiki-page, and well-sourced to Marjan van Heteren, Guido Jansen, Ronald de Leeuw: Poëzie der werkelijkheid; Nederlandse schilders van de negentiende eeuw. Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, Waanders Uitgevers, 2000, blz. 168-169: "Israels himself indicated in 1909 that he did not paint a specific couple, but random people.", the original quote in Dutch: "Israëls zelf heeft in 1909 echter aangegeven dat hij geen specifiek echtpaar heeft geschilderd, maar willekeurige personen." 82.176.221.176 (talk) 06:38, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
