Reference to Rubaiyat?

I'm absolutely certain (from "my general knowledge") that Arxilogos is correct in noting that the title is a reference to the famous line from Edward Fitzgerald's translation of "The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam." I've corrected the quotation to match the line as it appears in the 5th edition, the most familiar and most-quoted version. In addition to being correct, it is also clear that it is a better parallel for the song title (jug of wine -> cup of coffee, loaf of bread -> sandwich, thou -> you).

The Rubaiyat was extremely popular in those days and knowledge of that line would have been close to a cultural universal.

Because I'm certain its correct, and because I think it is valuable to modern readers who might not recognize the connection, I can't bring myself to tag it as "citation needed."

Nevertheless, it would be awfully nice if someone could find a good reference to show that Dubin and Rose really did consciously intend to have the song title refer to the poem.

This was already sourced --the Shaw source (p. 163) already present in the article expressly supports the connection to the Rubaiyat, as well the other facts stated in the first part of the article. --Arxiloxos (talk) 16:30, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
