Who?

edit

I'd like to know who Belle is singing this song to in the musical. Is it to Maurice, the Beast, some one else intirely, or is it more like a soliloquy? Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.60.167.65 (talk) 13:52, 3 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Alan Menken's thoughts on this song

edit

An interesting assessment by the composer himself, when entertaining an exercise by Thomas Shumacher to add a new song to Newsies for an American Theatre Wing video that aimed to demonstrate the process of writing songs (which led to Crutchie's "Letters From The Refuge):

"First of all, what I would do is look what happened with Beauty and the Beast - we added Tony Braxton - okay, this star's going to come in and play Crutchie and we need a song for 'that moment... it's not really dramatically intrinsically necessary, but if we were to create a song, and god knows people do that all the time, what would that moment be".

Sounds like he doesn't really like A Change in Me.. ;) --Coin945 (talk) 07:14, 22 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • From what I have read, things with Braxton seemed to be rather tricky, but it is hard to tell what is rumors and what is the truth. I do not necessarily believe that is a completely negative comment directly about the song, but rather a statement more on developing a song in general. Aoba47 (talk) 04:20, 23 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • All he's saying is it wasn't particularly necessary – and he's right, it probably wasn't – but it's very much a neutral opinion; he's not stating whether he likes the song or not. It's hardly even a statement about "A Change in Me", he's just saying sometimes situations arise that require you to write a song on demand.--Changedforbetter (talk) 04:41, 23 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
I thought it was an interesting statement in terms of this song in the broader context of songs written on demand and 'shoved' into a preexisting score - ala vanity projects to serve a star rather than a creative whole piece. I read a negative undertone to the way he said that passage. But my sensing of a 'negative undertone' isn't a reliable source. :P--Coin945 (talk) 06:18, 23 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Egan's infobox

edit

@Aoba47: The reason I decided to give Egan's version its own infobox is because it is the first, and so far only, English-language studio recording of "A Change in Me". In that regard, it actually DOES carry significantly more weight than other cover versions of the song (which are either live renditions or non-English renditions), if that makes sense.--Changedforbetter (talk) 16:59, 23 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
