Changes: edit

AN/SPY-1 was changes to reflect BMD mission area. Non-Aegis radars were removed from the table as being irrelevant to the article and possibly confusing to people not familiar with the Aegis suite.

SPY-2 Doesn't Exist edit

There's no such thing as a SPY-2 radar. The BMD function of the Tico's, Burke's, and the JMSDF's Kongo-class, comes from the SPY-1 radar, be it SPY-1B, SPY-1D, or SPY-1D(V). The radar really has nothing to do with it, the signal processor that drives the radar is what allows the system to seek ballistic missiles. Someone should really do some research on this before posting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.91.172.42 (talk) 21:38, 21 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

SPY-3 mischaracterization edit

SPY-3 is just the X-band part of the DDG-1000's radar suite. The S-band part is called the Volume Search Radar. Together they form the the Dual Band Radar system. —Preceding unsigned comment added by B.Smitty (talkcontribs) 15:21, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

So if I understand correctly AN/SPY3 is directly comparable to the Thales APAR ? That one is also meant to be combined with a Volume Search Radar, although that VSR is L-band instead of S-band (SMART-L). In that case it might be interesting to provide a comparison between the two systems somewhere. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.95.246.81 (talk) 14:43, 20 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Designation/Ship-types/Function edit

The introductory table of (5) various other RADAR systems does not belong in a SPY-3 article. Perhaps a mere listing of radars (and a more complete one at that) might be on a separate navy shipboard RADAR systems article. A SPY-3 is not a SPQ-9 nor a SPS-67 nor a SPN. Don't forget SPS-48E/49A, SPS-55 or even SPS-73! What's a TPX-42?
