Untitled edit

As this article is a stub with only one source and little beyond a definition currently, I plan to completely flesh out this article. I am planning on writing about the factors which resulted in the creation of these service organizations, as well as the difficulties they faced, and how that has changed or remained stagnant over time. Additionally, I would like to compile as much of a list of AIDS service organizations as possible, especially those which have been/continue to be very influential in relief, and that connect to other fully-formed Wikipedia articles, especially those in the HIV/AIDS Wikiproject. AIDS service organizations offer vital support for those affected by HIV/AIDS edit

@Bluerasberry: While this article focuses on the United States, it's important to highlight the close collaboration between Canadian and American groups during the crisis, as they shared resources and advocated together. Despite its focus, the content here is applicable to Canada, given the shared experiences and collaborative efforts during the HIV/AIDS crisis.

Regarding the disclaimer in the first paragraph, it states: "This article focuses on HIV/AIDS service organizations in the United States only."

Could we consider adding the following statement: "However, it is important to note that similar organizations in other countries, such as Canada, also played significant roles during the HIV/AIDS crisis and share many common experiences and challenges." I aim to link Canadian AIDS wiki pages to this article, but the current disclaimer hinders that possibility.

It would read like this:

AIDS service organizations are community-based organizations that provide support for people affected by HIV/AIDS. This article focuses on HIV/AIDS service organizations in the United States only. However, it is important to note that similar organizations in other countries, such as Canada, also played significant roles during the HIV/AIDS crisis and share many common experiences and challenges.

Your insights on this matter would be appreciated. Thank you! Accuracy-searcher (talk) 16:56, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Accuracy-searcher: Everything you say makes sense. Please proceed with changes like you described. I have some thoughts to share:
Yes, the line "This article focuses on HIV/AIDS service organizations in the United States only" is not appropriate. The article should be global. Adding Canadian perspective is a good next step. Adding more countries is ideal.
I looked a bit for sources to add South Africa, because it is a non-Western country with a very organized HIV/AIDS response. I could not find comprehensive sources
Consider also your time. If you like developing this article then great, but checking the traffic, this article gets about 700 pagevies a month so little impact. I personally try to develop articles which get more than 10k/month unless I have a special reason to develop local knowledge. One way to increase impact is to link to this article from other articles, as about 30 do but this topic might be relevant in more. Alternatively, maybe readers are getting comparable information from somewhere else in wiki. HIV/AIDS articles are often popular; this one is not. Globalizing will help too.
Talk it through with me, and if you have a plan, then I might be able to contribute some text and citations. Bluerasberry (talk) 23:34, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Bluerasberry: I've incorporated my temporary suggestion to make the article more inclusive by adding a sentence to the opening paragraph. In Canada, our response to HIV/AIDS began with 16 local AIDS Service Organizations (ASOs) before the establishment of the national Canadian AIDS Society. Currently, there are about 85 ASOs across Canada.
My priority is to develop the Canadian AIDS Society page as a foundational resource for related articles. As I conduct research, I integrate relevant information into the articles I'm working on. Regarding the AIDS service organization page, I plan to add a few sources and revise a paragraph or two, perhaps under "Development," as it currently only mentions the US. I'll do this as I progress with the Canadian AIDS articles.
The timeline and activism between Canadian and American groups are notably similar, reflecting cross-border collaborative efforts. I found it interesting to learn from the links provided about ASOs in Africa, also known as Clinic Care, which had a positive impact on patient care. In North America, ASOs were compelled to fill in the gap, which is also noteworthy.
As you rightly pointed out, I'll focus on managing my time effectively and completing the Canadian tasks first. If I encounter something suitable along the way, I'll let you know and then add it.
Your insights into analytics and "what links here" links are helpful. Thank you for your guidance. 😊 Accuracy-searcher (talk) 02:26, 11 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
