Couplers ADK/ADB class diesel multiple unit edit
"Kidney" would refer to the Janney coupler, the knuckle of which looks somewhat like a kidney when viewed from the top. The images in the article appear to show a Norwegian coupling rather than a link and pin. Peter Horn User talk 00:16, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
- A Kidney Link does not refer to the Janney coupler, and neither the ADL or ADK units are fitted with a knuckle style coupling. The coupling is close to, but not quite the same as the Norwegian coupling which you referred to in my Talk Page. The key difference is that Passenger Rolling Stock in New Zealand are not authorized to use hooks when coupling. A Kidney Link is a Kidney shaped Bar which fits between the two couplings, into which a horizontal pin is inserted, one at each end to physically couple the two vehicles. If an ADK is to couple to a knuckle type coupling, a Transition Head is provided. I hope this clarifies. Kaiwhara (talk) 10:47, 31 July 2014 (UTC)

- Now I appear to get it, the bulge of the bar goes downward while it rests in the slot in each of the coupler faces and the two pins rest behind the coupler faces. Peter Horn User talk 00:15, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
